What Skiers Say About Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Obergurgl-Hochgurgl attracts primarily beginner to intermediate skiers and families, with several advanced skiers noting the terrain can feel limited for a full week without visiting neighbouring Sölden. The most consistent praise centres on empty, well-groomed pistes, minimal lift queues, high altitude guaranteeing snow, and high-quality hotels with spa facilities and half-board options. The Nederhütte is repeatedly mentioned as the main après destination with live music, though reviewers consistently note the resort is otherwise quiet at night with limited bars and restaurants outside hotels. Several users mention the cost is noticeably higher than other Austrian resorts, and a few snowboarders flag numerous flat linking paths as inconvenient.

A great place for beginners that have had some experience with skiing. There aren’t may green runs here so it can be challenging if this if your first ski holiday! There are some great easy blues though.

Apres is great here with the Nederhutten in Obergurgl, a busy little place that sells great food, good drinks and the views are sublime.

Very difficult to give totally fair review because snow conditions were so poor. Hochgurgl had better piste conditions than Obergurgl but still very icy. Would be great with better snow although not large ski areas.
Ski lifts excellent and efficient so little queuing

We stayed in Obergurgl, it was a lovely resort with plenty of lovely long red and blue runs that were a lot of fun, even as a group consisting of several experts and a beginner. We were also able to go over to Hochgurgl for a day, and the skiing over there is brilliant as well. Lovely people and lovely towns, would highly reccomend!! Apres at the Nederhutte was amazing and they have a live band every monday and thursday.

Resort was overall very good.

Some considerable distance to ski between different areas and sometimes issues with getting back when certain lifts closed due to high winds. Bus between resorts every 15 minutes was great, never too busy. Runs were quiet, even during peak hours.

Great resort for families and keen skiers alike. Accomodation is great, ski lifts and transports are regular and quick, the runs were immaculate and the food and drink were excellent. Perfect for a winter getaway. Had spent Xmas in 2014 there and it got even when I came back in 2024. Cannot recommend enough.

A really warm and friendly place with plenty of routes for skiers and snowboarders of varied experience. The lifts are clean and well maintained. The snow is well groomed. The area is just wonderful. Quaint place with stunning views, amazing restaurants and a couple of shops. Well worth a visit. I love it that much, I’m coming back for the third time in March this year.

Really great week skiing and snowboarding here. I was able to do half a week of both and theres a good range of pistes which suit both.

I stayed in a hotel in obergurgl which had a ski room and lift straight up to the chair lift so super efficient and all the ski lifts had been updated since the previous time I came (10+ years ago).

It wasn't too busy because I went out of school holidays. I can imagine in peak season it could get a bit busy on the slopes.

Great apres, standard drink and food prices for European Alps skiing and fantastic apres! Would highly recommend.

It’s a nice resort with really good hotels. Had an awsome night of apres with live music and good vibes. Slopes are decent with a good variety. Yet to experience much powder or off piste there but I’m sure it does exist. Requires hotel transfer which can be expensive

Obergurgl was a lovely mountain. We were traveling as a couple (an advanced and a beginner skier). The lesson for her beginner was excellent and the slopes were great to learn on. There were also a reasonable amount of challenging slopes for the advanced skier.

Obergurgl is a great resort for beginners and intermediate skiers . The lift system is excellent , it is a relatively quiet resort but has good apres especially the nederhutte with live music 3 nights a week .Ice-berg bar & fasslbar in town . We stayed at the excellently friendly run Haus Gurgl hotel 4star , on half board , couldn’t have asked for anything better ski in & out . Bus stop outside the door for solden. First time skiing in 20+ years , pistes were in excellent condition hardly and queues for the lifts .

obergurgl was excellent, it had something for everyone. the runs had fabulous snow and were groomed every morning. the lifts were super efficient and were very high quality. the food on the mountain to ski in/out of was so good, we went almost every day and they had a huge range of different options on the menu. Accommodation round about was perfect, the one we stayed at had a heated ski depot and you could ski in/out straight from the hotel door, a gondola right at the doorstep!! overall our experience was amazing, i’d highly recommend!

As you can ski in both resorts it's perfect for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. We went when there was not much snow, however they still managed to keep most of the runs open. So, it's great for guaranteed skiing.

Great ski resort, easy access to the full mountain making it easy to meet up with friends anywhere. Some of the best mountain restaurants I’ve been at. Great piste variety. Close proximity to Sölden for another excellent resort.

Resort just 1.5hr transfer from innsbruck. 20 minutes from Sölden. Amazing groomed piste with plenty of off piste when snow is good. Friendly small village with really good accommodation and ski schools. Also night skiing once a week from 6:30pm to 9pm and plenty of live music in the apres bar.

Have been to this resort a number of times and love the feel of the place. Traditional and friendly would be the main themes for me.
Plenty of great lunch and drink options on the mountain.
It’s not a party place, but the Nederhutte provides excellent apres a few nights a week.
I am an intermediate skier and there are plenty of lovely runs. Not sure I would like to be a total beginner here as some of the link runs are a little trickier.
Overall a wonderful holiday!

Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are basically two resorts in one, where you can either get the bus between them or a lift which allows you to get a great view of the valley. Your lift pass also allows you to go to Solden. Obergurgl and Hochgurgl have the best of both worlds for skiing, with hard and easy slopes. The resort is high up so the snow is always the best! There’s also fantastic apres ski, for example live music at the Nederhutte in Obergurgl. But for me the best place to go is the Star at the top of Hochgurgl, which provides you with the best views!
