What Skiers Say About Obergurgl-Hochgurgl
Obergurgl-Hochgurgl attracts primarily beginner to intermediate skiers and families, with several advanced skiers noting the terrain can feel limited for a full week without visiting neighbouring Sölden. The most consistent praise centres on empty, well-groomed pistes, minimal lift queues, high altitude guaranteeing snow, and high-quality hotels with spa facilities and half-board options. The Nederhütte is repeatedly mentioned as the main après destination with live music, though reviewers consistently note the resort is otherwise quiet at night with limited bars and restaurants outside hotels. Several users mention the cost is noticeably higher than other Austrian resorts, and a few snowboarders flag numerous flat linking paths as inconvenient.

Best option is a 15 min bus down to Soelden, which is much larger and better for boarders. Gurgl village is nice. If you want somewhere with a chilled vibe, it’s for you. The hotel we stayed at was really nice.
The lift system is really good in obergurgl, with virtually no queuing and high speed access.
The slopes, however, were quite busy and there are quite a few paths which get clogged up with skiers. We enjoyed the skiing, but have been to resorts that we prefer.
Overall, a really good holiday, but made that way because of the hotel and great lift system
Getting to Hochgurgl for Obergurgl is straight-forward and takes a few minutes by bus, you can even ski Sölden on the same lift pass, which is a bonus. Sölden is a quite large ski area and if you have booked more that a week you get free entry into the 007 exhibition at the top, which is actually quite good!
The lift between Hochgurgl and Obergurgl is a bit older and stops during high winds, this only affected us twice, this just means you have to ski down to the very bottom and get the bus back, hardly an inconvenience!
The is a nice hut just up at the first lift in Obergurgl that is open late and it is an easy ski down under lights, the live band is great and the atmosphere is something to be experienced!
Overall I rate this resort a 9 out of 10, it lost 1 point because of the lift that connects to Hochgurgl and some of the runs are not pisted very well, especially on the way back into Obergurgl!
Apres is lacking with no later night options. It’s not a party town.
Hotels options are good with a few very luxurious option.
