What Skiers Say About Obergurgl-Hochgurgl
Obergurgl-Hochgurgl attracts primarily beginner to intermediate skiers and families, with several advanced skiers noting the terrain can feel limited for a full week without visiting neighbouring Sölden. The most consistent praise centres on empty, well-groomed pistes, minimal lift queues, high altitude guaranteeing snow, and high-quality hotels with spa facilities and half-board options. The Nederhütte is repeatedly mentioned as the main après destination with live music, though reviewers consistently note the resort is otherwise quiet at night with limited bars and restaurants outside hotels. Several users mention the cost is noticeably higher than other Austrian resorts, and a few snowboarders flag numerous flat linking paths as inconvenient.

Obergurgl is a dream spot for beginners. Wide blue slopes. Will return!
Most of the runs in this resort are nice and wide and well groomed.
In Obergurl there isn't much choice for eating out or apres. The Nederhuette is the place to go and it's awesome. If you've had a little too much schnapps to make it down on your skis or board back to the village they will take you down on a ski-doo.
It's a smaller resort, and most of our mixed-ability group skiied the entire area in a week, even with a rest day. As you'd expect the villages ate also small and quiet, but Obergurgl has a few good bars and the Nederhütte is every bit as good as its legend suggests.
The terrain isn't that challenging, so advanced-expert riders will find it a little tame. I didn't try to get off piste much, with the state of the snow, but a guide for a day or two might be a good investment if you find you've skiing everything by midweek.
There is night skiing twice a week and it was some of the best after-dark snowsports I've done in Europe, with good lighting and full runs open.
Staff and locals were friendly and we'd all like to return and experience the place with some decent snow.
Well groomed pistes
Efficient lift system
Fabulous hotel
Friendly staff
Would return with family
The resort is quiet at night so won’t suit everyone and other than the hotels the opportunity to eat is limited.
There’s a bar on the slopes offering excellent apres ski , the Nederhut. The resort is high so snow is virtually guaranteed.
As a whole it’s an excellent resort for those looking for a winter escape.
Very few restaurants in the town not in a hotel.
Make sure to visit the Neauderhutte for apre ski.
Nice atmosphere in the bars
The pisteing of the slopes can be a bit hit and miss, mainly skiable.
Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are connected by lifts and a bus. You can even get the bus over to Sölden a much larger ski area, where there are easy reds and blues.
A ski pass longer than a week also gets you free entry into the 007 exhibition, that is worth it!
A totally enjoyable ski area!
A good choice of high quality accommodation options in the resort but definitely on the expensive side.
