It's the best of both worlds, really. What you have here is a charming, rustic French village with super restaurants and bars and with local skiing punching well above its weight, that's also linked to the massive Portes du Soleil circuit with over 650kms of varied runs. Want to tootle around sunny, friendly local pistes and stop off for coffee and lunch at a wide choice of scenic restaurants? No problem. But why stop there? Take your mixed-ability family and friends on a circuit from France into Switzerland. The easy connecting lifts aren't super busy and each resort you visit is a delight in itself, from Avoriaz next door to charming villages like Morzine and Les Gets. Don't leave Chatel without visiting nearby Chapelle d'Abondance just down the road to ski Cret Beni - the Spring skiing here is turning back is a joy - birds twittering, one restaurant bar, total happiness. A bit further on Saint Jean d’Aulps has the longest descent in the PDS (7kms), is wonderfully old fashioned and serves one of the best steaks I've had in France (apart from Le Renard in Chatel owned by chef Rob Brown of course). Chatel is great for couples and groups with varying ski skills. And wherever you roam in the Portes du Soleil, you'll find your ski tips turning back to Chatel for its looks, charm and snow quality. No wonder people return year after year.

Have visited Nendaz for the last 15 years early days probably a bit difficult area for beginner however as i improved the area opens up fantastically. Nendaz slightly quieter than Verbier and a little more affordable. Some good restaurants and takeaways and Hotel Nendaz has a decent Spa.

La Plagne is a great option especially for mixed groups - snow sure with varied runs and terrain for all levels of confidence. It can get busy in school holidays but name a resort which doesn’t!

The parking is free and close to the slopes which is always a good start to a day of skiing. There was a special offer of a half price lift pass out of the school holidays. Already a winning combination of half price lift pass and there is a queue of only 4 people in front of us. A fabulous days under blue sky’s I would recommend

Runs were great and pretty quiet for when we went. It is very expensive for what it is and the apres is pretty soulless. Food is nothing to write home about either aside from the poutine and waffles on the mountains. Queueing etiquette at the lifts is far too woke. Restaurant culture and food quality generally naff.

Stayed 1-8 March 2026 Great spring conditions except the lowest slopes which had thin snow cover early afternoon to slush later. Relatively no queues at any lifts. Prices for food and drink in the town were expected however much higher on slope.

Really loved the resort. the snow was amazing in January & we were lucky with some bluebird days to enjoy it. There is a great variety of runs & the area is just big enough to not get boring over a week but small enough to be quick to pop across & meet friends or collect kids from ski school. The runs were mostly very quiet which was so nice. Would definitely go back.

Great trip to Courchevel with loads of options for beginner/intermediate skiier - and lots of options for the advanced members of our group too. Really easy to get about too. Only complaint is that food and drink is VERY expensive so make sure to shop about - we found an apres in 1850 with €7 pints, but at another bar it was over €30.

Great mountain resort. Steep slopes. Needs more snow. Wonderful friendly staff, from getting a hug going up to having great advice offered at the pub.

We stayed in an Airbnb apartment about 10 minutes walk from the Super Morzine lift, which was ideal, close enough to the town, but away from any noise. The town itself had everything that you want in terms of shops, bars and restaurants, but I wouldn't describe it as lively, so possibly not ideal for someone looking for lots of nightlife. The ski area seemed huge and during our three days there we hardly skied the same slopes twice, even though we only skied the Avoriaz side. The slopes did get busy at certain times of the day, but not too bad, the variety of pistes was excellent and there seemed to be loads of snow parks and features. I would definitely return.
