What Skiers Say About Sestrière

Sestrière attracts a wide range of skiers from beginners to experts, with reviewers frequently noting its connection to the wider Milky Way ski area including Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario, and Montgenèvre in France. Intermediate and advanced skiers consistently praise the well-groomed pistes and variety of red runs, though several beginners found limited green runs and steep blues challenging. Value for money is repeatedly highlighted as excellent compared to French resorts, particularly for on-mountain food and lift passes. The main recurring complaint involves wind-related lift closures, especially the gondola link to Sauze d'Oulx, which can trap skiers in Sestrière and create queues. Reviewers consistently mention dated lift infrastructure with slow, older chairlifts, though most agree the piste quality compensates for this.

Great ski resort, will definitely be returning at some point in the future. We was unlucky with the snow but that is just how it goes. Can’t wait to go back

Whilst the runs were overall decent when groomed properly, I was a bit disappointed with the basics such as signposting and the map quality, we experienced a lot of barriers due to closed runs and therefore struggled to stick to our plan for each day. Also we couldn’t easily access a whole area (Sansicario) that was covered on our lift pass due to it only being accessible by a long, steep drag lift which is highly difficult for boarders

Good resort and would be a fab one for beginners as plenty of green and blue runs. Food was amazing quality and much better value than France, also not a huge amount of apres but the main apres bar (GFC) was the best I’ve been to. Just a bit disappointing that more slopes weren’t open however appreciate it does depend on the time of year you go. We also got 2 days to ski in France with our lift pass and it’s well worth doing!

We stayed 7 nights in Sestrière, and had 6 days skiing.

The gradient and width of pistes suited me as an intermediate skier but were quite challenging for the less experienced members of our group. It was technical.

We were a bit restricted in terms of open lifts and runs - early season. I could see there would be a lot more options when the wider Vialetta area received more snow.

I had a day out at Montgevevre down the road. Beautiful and suitable for all levels.

We had a brilliant time on my brother in laws stag. We were there for the skiing above all else but the apres didn’t let down either. Loads of runs all open and because there’s two ski areas there is always somewhere new to go and you don’t get bored of the same runs all the time. Great snow and a brilliant atmosphere looks very family friendly resort as well so hoping to come back with the family another time. Brilliant place to ski.

Excellent resort for intermediate skiers. Beautiful food and restaurants. Lifts were incredibly busy at the weekends (to be expected) but no queues during the week. Lunch and a pint was very reasonable. People were very helpful. Overall excellent trip!

This was my first ever skiing holiday, and although the green runs were limited there was plenty of blue that were good. Individual classes worked best for me, and the apres ski was amazing! One of the best for me

A great place for the family with various levels of experience. The best Xmas ever! December isn't the best for snow levels, but at 2000m, all the basic runs were in good condition, though it was too early in the season for all the links to the rest of the Milky Way to be open. Sauze was in dire need of a dusting on the day we could get over the top. I would go again tomorrow!!!

Great to stay in but advanced skiers are best to get full valley pass and head to san sicario and Sauze D’Oulx - nice runs and quiet slopes. Food cheap that side of the valley. Can travel to France too. We stayed in principe piemonte hotel which is really nice and modern. Great access to slopes immediately and free shuttles too.

Village is very small with not many apres ski options. Skiing is good on the whole even when there weren’t a huge amount of runs open. I went the week before Christmas and it was pretty quiet. Best not flying to Geneva as it’s a right trek from there!

Great resort, family friendly good options for accommodation. We stayed at the Gran Roc Hotel which was great location for the ski school and about 10 mins walk from the main centre. Hotel had a good shuttle that made this easy. Eating out options were good but timings were limited for children as most places didn’t open until 7pm.

Busy slopes. They do not groom during the day so after 1 or 2 hours of ski day the slope quality is vastly reduced. Good accommodation and eating options with good apré ski. Few slopes open often unless very good snow. Plenty of off piece options.

Definitely visit sestriere ski resort it has all the capabilities from beginners to the very advanced. Night life is great with the apres ski and food during lunch time and dinner is exceptional. Slopes and lifts are open from 8am to 5pm with plenty of snow.

As the site of the previous Winter Olympics this has a lot of potential. There is a large 'plaza' area with very gentle slopes and magic carpets for beginners. Otherwise there are mostly red runs and some challenging blacks, with a few off piste areas too. There do not seem to be many blues.
Infrastructure is well set up with chair lifts, gondolas and drag lifts well maintained and staffed. There are a large number of ski schools to choose from in the town.
There are a good selection of places to eat and drink during the day but apres ski in the evening seems a little more re limited.
The down side is that the resort is extremely popular destination for secondary schools bringing teenage pupils. As a consequence the reds around the main areas were extremely crowded with teenager novices whose enthusiasm did not match their actual ability. There would also be long queues for lifts.

We went with a large group of people, there was about 20 of us that used the Ski School for lessons as we had never skied before. They were lovely and patient with the beginners and then only moved us up to blue slopes when we were ready!

There are lots of nice little places to eat, we went for pizza one night and it was delicious!

Overall we all had a great experience and the feedback from groups who were more advanced said they had an amazing time skiing down the black slopes. Would absolutely go again.
