Not too bad, Snow coverage wasnt great and only a few lifts open. Runs were well maintained if a bit icy.

A great resort with lots of runs and further fantastic scope due to its links to the rest of the ViaLattea domain... on PREVIOUS visits, but NOT this one!

Unfortunately, as I now know, Sestriere is NOT the right choice for an early break, e.g. the first couple of weeks of the season, pre-Christmas.

Its height promising snow-sure skiing is meaningless as this time, as the local authorities did not open the lifts. A link to the lower resorts was not expected so early, but here well above 2,000m at the base there was plenty of snow, including much artificial cover, which the altitude and low temperatures ensure is going nowhere. Yet it was mostly inaccessible.

Do they save the mountain above Borgata for the Christmas influx!? All I know is that there were only THREE chairs running for the whole week! This meant all the learners, including many school groups, in with the rest of us, were on a handful of runs only 'til the weekend, when one more lift (a short, very old, painfully slow chair) finally opened up a couple of extra routes.

SO disappointing to be looking up at the bashers and sprayers in action, and km of snow-covered pistes... all tantalisingly closed. We did every run available, several times over, on just day one! I WILL be back, because the ViaLattea IS truly fantastic  but always in high season in the future.

We were there early (22-29th December) so only about 50% of the resort was open it was quiet with very quick queues though, apart from below borgata where they could have done with opening the other lifts..

Runs were well groomed, theres lots of on piste amenities and the linked reports mean a large ski area.

Not much live music
Heavily dependent on links to sansicario for the rest of the Via Lattea area.
Good value for money in most of the bars and restaurants.
Not much apres early in season.
Very high up for an itallian resort so generally good snow quality throughout the season.

Interesting history, Sestriere has many plus points. Great value for money, with fun apres ski.
Despite being high, the snow conditions werent great when we were there. The blue runs were either closed, or incredibly challenging. In fact, in many cases you were better taking the red or black piste options.
Theres a lovely vibe about the place and I found it really grew on me, but theres also an awkwardness that leaves you having to go uphill to get to the lift.
Great options to ski into neighbouring Sousie Dou (?spelling) and a day trip to France.

Quiet town but has some busy slopes, overall was a very good experience. Some good quality Italian food around and lots of off piste opportunities.

Second time skiing, first time in Italy. The resort had some really nice snow and plenty of options for intermediate skiing. Some really nice routes with lots of space so you can avoid other skiers if youre a little inexperienced. The town was lovely and very fitting to the experience, matched the style of a ski village and was a lovely area to explore. The resort had some nice bars around the slopes that offered food and drinks so it was nice to have some pit stops on the way around.

5 different resorts all connected, good for any level skier. Great apres ski and accommodation. Can ski all the way into France too

Sestriere, part of the Milky Way (is Latea) is linked to Sestriere by a high speed gondola, and a further 3 resorts, in Italy and one in France (Montgenevre)
Hosts of the 2006 Olympics, this high altitude resort combines chic with family friendly vibes.
The ski school is great with many English speaking instructors. There are plenty of blue and green runs near to the resort and further up the mountain there are plenty of red and blacks if you fancy trying the Olympic Kandaha.
There are a good choice of mountain restaurants and bars, if you like eating lunch on the slopes. In the town there is a good selection of restaurants, night clubs and hotels, and apartments to rent.
If you like shopping, there are shops galore with colourful window displays.
Sestriere is linked to Sauze D'oulx by gondola and the skiing over that side of the mountain is even more extensive.
All in all Sestriere is a great resort with a touch of Italian class, for all levels of skiers and will want you returning for more like I have with my family since 1980.

Quality ski area, amazing food options on and off the mountain, and quite possibly the best apres ski location in the alps.

A great ski resort in the north of Italy that you can definitely enjoy on a budget.

The ski quality is very reliable and is a friendly area. There are definitely better ski areas across the alps but you dont feel robbed when you have lunch up the mountain (always a bonus).

A small town with a vibrant nightlife to definitely keep you entertained throughout the week.

Overall was a great skiing experience for a first time skier. The ski school and our instructor were really good with helping build confidence and technique. Was my first time skiing and thanks to the instructor i was able to confidently ski a red run by the end of the week. The ski school provided us with two instructors who separated us in confidence and skill level on fourth or fifth day and got taken down one of the harder red runs/ easier black runs and gave us plenty of freedom to explore and try new things while skiing. Whole resort was great with plenty of places for food and a decent amount of bars for drinks and a chill out.

A very family friendly resort. Good for intermediate skiers and for a more laid back atmosphere. We have skied here a couple of times and the only downside were high winds closing some of the lifts.

Good snow record. The slope grading is true and steep in places. The pistes are the the best maintained pistes Ive ever come across. Excellent resort for intermediate and beginner skiers, lots for the experts to challenge themselves on too!! A full day tour round the whole Milky Way, taking in San Sicario, Clavier, and Sauze dOulx is a must!! The apres ski and night life is limited.

Steep slopes, traditional Italian food and a good selection of fun bars for apres skiing. It can however get very busy during italian holiday periods. The off-piste options are ok but the groomed pistes are exceptional. Well connected runs, steep pistes and plenty of technical skiing, catering more to an intermediate or advanced skier

Great place to go if you are a beginner/ intermediate. Loved it this year. The ski school was okay. But big groups and not split in the best way for ability. Highly recommend

Unfortunately when I went to sestriere it was nearing the end of the season (we went in Easter) and so many of the runs were not open and the accommodation I stayed in was closing down so we were pretty much the only ones there. However this did mean the resort was incredibly quiet and so despite there only being a few runs open we had a blast without having to wait in queues at any of the lifts. The bars at the bottom of slopes were also a great atmosphere. I went here as a part of a family holiday with mine and another family and there was plenty to entertain us all.

Ski area and lift facilities felt very poorly thought out and dated. A lot of the lifts are very slow, if they were running at all. This led to serious bottle necks in certain areas of the ski area, where waits could reach up to 30 minutes at busy times (lunchtime/end of day commute)

Aged chairlift with no bubble protection from snow seats are covered in snow if it snows OK runs....but won't be back
