What Skiers Say About Sauze d'Oulx

Sauze d'Oulx attracts mainly intermediate to advanced skiers who value affordability and access to the wider Via Lattea ski area. Reviewers consistently praise the reasonable prices for food, drink, and lift passes, alongside the friendly atmosphere and quality Italian restaurants. The lift infrastructure is frequently criticised as old and slow, with many noting that connections to neighbouring resorts close easily in high winds. Snow conditions are variable, with lower runs often icy or slushy, though tree-lined runs are appreciated. The town itself is described as charming with good nightlife, though some find it quieter than expected.

The Via Lattea ski area is quite spread out so hard to make the most of, especially given the lifts are mostly fairly old and not very quick. The ski day is quite short and lifts can get closed due to windy conditions, which would not be an issue in other resorts I have been to.

Good fun, lift pass also covers the resort on the other side of the mountain. Lifts are efficient and overall not too busy.

This is my first visit to Sauze. I went with a group of 7 other friends all over 40 and have been skiing on and off for over 20 years. We went mid January and there had been a good dump of snow the week before. The ski pass lets you visit a large number of other ski area all accessed from ski lifts. You can ski from Italy into France and back all in a day - if you’re fast. The reds are steep and fast, the blues are generally quite narrow and a good pace. Blacks runs are steep mogul run and are fantastic. The lifts are quite quick and you can see which are running from the app. We took the Clotes lift every morning and got as high as we could thinking there would be ski schools everywhere but honestly was pretty quiet.

A great resort town that feels homely due to its cobbled old town area and winding streets. Can get noisy in the evenings but no nightclubs so usually quiet by midnight. Great bars and traditional restaurants much cheaper than other resorts. The lifts out of resort need upgrading and especially the 2-chair link to Sestriere which is prone to closures in moderate winds.

We really enjoyed our ski holiday to Sauze, the snow coverage back to resort was slightly sketchy but great access to the whole via latta ski area, some great advanced runs over in sestriere. Food was amazing and so cheap compared to the French alps! From memory a plate of fresh pasta and a can of soda for two came to €26 on the mountain, at the centre where multiple runs ended and multiple ski lifts went from. Cheap amazing hot chocolates on the mountain too as well as great good value meals in resort in the evenings!

Sauze is a great town with really good access to some great ski areas.
The town itself has a great atmosphere with a good combination of being great for families but also having a vibrant night life.
There’s live music somewhere almost every night and so the apres ski is always popping off.

We were unlucky with the snow but even then the piste runs were good and you could tell how great the off piste would have been if we had the conditions for it.

Lifts were pretty good and got you to his terrain pretty fast and the facilities/pubs and restaurants on there mountain were all really good and reasonably priced for a ski resort!

Excellent number of varied pistes for all levels, great value lift passes.

Nightlife and bars seem quieter than years gone by but there are still good nights to be had. Some great restaurants as well.

Great resort if the links to the wider area are open. High winds can be a regular occurrence. Busy on weekends due to proximity to Italian cities. Good apres ski vibe.

Went this month was good fun Lot of powder available of the runs, on runs I found a lot of ice that made it a bit challenging and some painful falls. A lot of bars available so can drink throughout the day and isn’t too pricy for a beer

This resort was brilliant an great value for money. It offered a real traditional vibe of an Italian town with plenty of food options-none of which disappointed! Access onto the slope ls was super easy an close to resort centre, we hardly cued for a lift all week, empty, well groomed slopes. A lovely find!

Great couple of days boarding at Sauze. Had a massive dumping of snow so had some awesome powder days. Plenty of runs for all abilities and easy links between other mountains via lifts and gondolas give you even more options. Overall great vibe and reasonably affordable for a holiday on the mountain.

Lovely town, with lovely layed back feel. We skied at half term and with a combination of lifts closed due to high winds there was simply not capacity on the lift infrastructure to cope with the volume. I would go again but not peak season. We made use of the free bus for a days excursion to Badagasta and hired a taxi to Mongevre. Whilst there is a ski link to Mongenevre it is a long way. The taxi meant we had a full day exploring montgenevre which was definitely worthwhile. One of the biggest benefits is the very short transfer, just over an hour, to and from Turin airport. Flying to Turin also meant we missed the change over day chaos of Geneva and Chambery

Stayed in village centre, effort getting to lifts, poor conditions, limited skiing due to winds. All in all a disappointment and certainly would not go back
