What Skiers Say About Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Obergurgl-Hochgurgl attracts primarily beginner to intermediate skiers and families, with several advanced skiers noting the terrain can feel limited for a full week without visiting neighbouring Sölden. The most consistent praise centres on empty, well-groomed pistes, minimal lift queues, high altitude guaranteeing snow, and high-quality hotels with spa facilities and half-board options. The Nederhütte is repeatedly mentioned as the main après destination with live music, though reviewers consistently note the resort is otherwise quiet at night with limited bars and restaurants outside hotels. Several users mention the cost is noticeably higher than other Austrian resorts, and a few snowboarders flag numerous flat linking paths as inconvenient.

Great resort visited, absolutely freezing when we were there though! Enjoyed powder and some of the more challenging pistes but there could have been more.

I did a ski season in Obergurgl and loved it. While ski area is relatively small, there is still a lot of variety. It's really easy to get around and the slopes are a lot of fun.Great for reliable snow since it's so high. There's loads of great restaurants on the slopes for getting lunch. Hohe Mut Alm is a favourite & pretty affordable. Of course you've got Nederhutte in Obergurgl which is one best Apres Bars in Austria (probably). Live music most nights, great authentic Austrian apres experience. Plus if you want more skiing & Apres you can easily visit Soelden down the road!

Love having two resorts to explore connected by both gondola and buses , so if you go overboard at apres you can still make it back to the right side of the valley :) gorgeous views and really unique places to eat on the mountain - my favourite is the high altitude motorcycle museum ! Found the terrain great for all levels, if a bit bottle neck at peak times on the beginner slopes. Plenty of space on the blacks and reds, and lots of routes back to resort.

Great family friendly resort. Great pisted runs - more of an intermediate resort. Not loads of black runs. High resort with 99 percent snow cannons - always snow. On Saturday the slopes are empty. Hardly ever queued for lifts. Lovely Austrian people. Spotlessly clean wherever you go. Excellent accommodation and food options. Overall excellent for families with children. Not a party town but has apres ski if you want it.

Loved this resort, stayed in a ski in, ski out hotel over new years and had an amazing time. It was quite a busy location, with big queues to get up the mountain, but if you went up when ski school are on their lunch break it was always really nice and quiet. Theres good connections to the rest of the mountain, but due to very windy weather lots of the ski lifts were shut. Would definitely love to come back here again!

The week we skied was mainly overcast and two days were windy. The slopes in Hochgurgl are mainly blue runs, and are lovely and wide. There are a couple of pinch points on runs 32 and 36. But going slow and giving others respect mean its not an issue, the red runs are mainly quite wide.
One day there were only two lifts running which was a little painful. However after having a drink stop, it meant we skied a lot although over the same 4/5 pistes, but they were pretty quiet and we almost had them to ourselves.
We spent a day in Obergurgl using the cross point cable car. We skied most of the area apart from 2 blacks. The only slope that wasnt particularly nice was the bottom of 12 going down to the cable car. Less confident red skiers may struggle.
Overall a lovely area to ski and with it being so high , snow isnt an issue.

Obergurgl, is often referred to as the Diamond of the Alps for good reason and is renowned for its reliable snow and high-altitude skiing. Lots of modern lifts that access a wide range of slopes suitable for all skill levels.

Our hotel was fantastic, walking distance to lifts as are most places and if not bus system is great. Ski hire shops good value and all close by.

A standout restaurant for us is the Nederhütte, an amazing lunch and après-ski venue, lively music from Benny and the band, cold beers, great food and fun, crazy welcoming Austrian atmosphere - and then a ski back home!

a visit to the James Bond exhibit at the in Solden is a must. The show memorabilia from the filming of Spectre And the restaurant there is awesome! Expensive but amazing food, service and views, or you can visit the chicken shack on the way down!

Overall, Obergurgl, for our family provides a fantastic blend of skiing, relaxation, and entertainment, been a few times now and we love it!

Obergurgl is a really family friendly resort! The slopes are amazing and can get really high - the slopes are really nice and long too. It feels like a bit of a quieter resort as its a bit smaller/ not one of the major ones but the quietness makes it really enjoyable. Just down the valley is Sölden which is super easy to get to if you want a bit of a change!

Obergurgl is a small village with not many bars, but the slopes are perfectly groomed and you're always going to have good snow. The staff in and around the ski slopes are fast efficient and most importantly friendly. It's great for family's that can ski and, as some of the blues seem like little reds.

I would recommend this area to all.

Obergurgl is the self-confessed Diamond of the Alps and it is understandable to see why. The hotels are fantastic, the pistes are well looked after, the mountain restaurants are all family owned and decent value for money. With connections to Hochgurgl and Solden, there is a huge amount of skiing to be done. The crème de La crème of Obergurgl, has to be the Nederhutte. A family run restaurant through the afternoon and then the best apres I have ever been to, late afternoon. At the end of the evening, if you can manage to put your skis on, theres a gentle blue back into the village. If this requires a little too much thought after sampling the finest Austrian lager, they have complimentary skidoos that ferry people up and down. If skiing/boarding is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of cross country tracks for walking that are very popular with the locals and hotel staff. My family have been to the Solden/Obergurgl ski area for the last 5 years and we are finding it hard to consider booking anywhere else! Highly recommend for all levels of skiers.

Öbergurgl offers a variety of terrain suited for all levels of snowboarders, though its particularly appealing for intermediate to advanced riders. The resort has a good mix of wide open pistes and more challenging, off-piste terrain. The slopes are well-maintained and not as crowded as other Austrian resorts, making for a more relaxed snowboarding experience.
