What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen
Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Good variety of slopes, lots of side piste, good parks, decent lift system so your day on the hill is sorted.
The apres is great if that's your thing.
It's a popular resort though so it can get crowded.
The music at the festival was on point, creating the ideal vibe for après-ski fun, and it was so easy to get lost in the energy of it all. What truly made the experience special, though, were the workers. Everyone I interacted with was so warm, friendly, and welcomingit really added to the overall positive experience.
I genuinely have nothing bad to say about this resort. From the slopes to the staff to the music, everything was perfect. I wholeheartedly believe that everyone should visit this resort at least once in their life!
Nice shopping in the town.
Get the train to some of the neighboring ski areas. Great day out on the train.
Food on the resort wasnt overly expensive and good quality with a range of options for different dietary restrictions (being vegetarian in Austria can be tough!)
I have skied in lots of resorts in different countries, Mayhofen is one of my favourites.
Some challenging Blacks in Mayrhofen including the Harikiri.
Good vibe in the village.
The Penken lift first thing is a nightmare so get there early, first few chairs are also busy along with slopes, being a town with high cliffs all around you are limited to this one lift or Ahornbahn a ten minute walk away but pistes a limited at Ahorn (good black to resort) a couple of trips to the Hintertux glacier is well the effort as is a trip do to Zell Ziller lots of skiing there but just make sure your on Zillertal side of valley before lifts close or I guess it would be expensive taxi back
All in all a very busy resort I wouldnt rush back but I would go back at some point
Apres is lively but plenty of quieter options,
Ever popoular for a reason, good infrastructure and do ski thr glacier and pop to to Zell am Ziller on the train all included in the lift pass
I feel a little bit sorry for beginners as there didn't seem to be many blues further away from ski school area and the reds are pretty tough and quite a few ungroomed..
The skiing are however is really good if your relatively proficient.
Rastkogel and Finkenburg are nice.
Glacier is ok if weather is good about 35 minutes away on green line bus.
The town itself is good, one main street with bars and cafes, if you go down the side streets there is some good places aswell.
I would definitely come back...plenty of skiing for a week.
Enjoy it
While Mayrhofen is the most popular town within the ski-pass, the nearby resorts are much more enjoyable Kaltenbach has very wide slopes, very good and friendly offpiste options. Hintertux glacier has very good snow due its altitude and it's a dream destination after a dump (and bluebird sky)
Après-ski in Mayrhofen is lively, with numerous bars, restaurants, and venues to enjoy after a day of skiing, especially in the town center. The village itself is charming, with a great selection of shops, cafes, and restaurants.
