What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Only our second time skiiing and we absolutely fell in love with the place.
Blue skies, quietish slopes, so many areas to explore within the ski pass, great affordable bars and restaurants, all types of lifts in great working order, first class public transport links included in the lift pass.
We will definitely return!

We had a sick time in Mayrhofen, the ski area was huge and we also enjoyed a day up at Hinter-tux Glacier halfway through our holiday for a change of scenery. During our holiday, we got 3 insane powder days, waist deep just off the side of the runs!
Found this resort to be really well laid out and liked the variety of restaurants on the mountain. The only downside was you have to download at the end of the day in the gondola, but aside from that you are too busy enjoying the runs, slackcountry and thumping apres ski to think much about it!

I went to Mayrhofen in December 2023. As far as skiing early in the season goes, Maryhofen boasts some of the best! The Zillertal cable car means you can stay right in the valley (often much cheaper than on the mountain) and get to slopes within fifteen minutes. It's cheaper than some of the other big austrian resorts and is great for beginners and families. Be sure to check out the Ice Bar (located next to Hotel Strass) for incredible apres skiing.

Icy slopes during our visit. The blues were incredibly busy, which made it hard for the more beginner skiers in our group, however the reds further from the centre were pretty dreamy

We hit one side of the resort every morning and then came down to “Hans the butchers“ at lunchtime for food and a rave!! We then went up the other side to catch some sun and a drink/board/party at the bar at the top.. the whole area is amazing.. a few of use do the black run down whilst others get the bubble and wait in the bar with a drink for the black run warriors to return!! Caught the bus up to the glacier a couple of times.. I love mayrhofen…

I absolutely loved visiting Mayrhofen again!

The skiable terrain just keeps going and going! You can spend the whole day heading in one direction not knowing how you will get back. We had to download from miles up the valley and get the bus back the one day as we were a long way from the main gondola.

The groomed runs are amazing and the nightlife there overlapped with Snowbombing festival so the place was buzzing.

April time meant the morning skiing was still great however it got a bit slushy in the afternoon.

Would recommend to anybody!
