What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Amazing place, loads of options up and down the Hintertux.
My favourite resort in Europe.
Relatively cheap for food and drinks, Scotland Yard pub is an absolute must.

As a first time skier, I found this location perfect! Ski lift was right next to the Strass sports hotel which was perfect to get up and get going! Our ski school instructor was super helpful and we were off on runs by day 2!

Fantastic resort - great variety with zillertall pass that gives you access to lots of ski areas. Brilliant apres! Very reasonable compared to France - lunch on mountain is affordable, as is beer!

Great for all levels. Après-ski is not the one - if youre looking to party, dont go to Austria. Food and drink were typically cheaper than anywhere Ive ever been in France. This was my first holiday skiing and I thoroughly enjoyed.

We have been going to Mayrhofen for many years- best bits are the friendliness of the locals, the cleanliness, the efficiency, great town with great variety of shops, great beer and Gassers for your schnitzel, pommes and bratwurst! Oh- and great skiing for allAbilities. And the glacier skiing!

Large varied ski area if you opt for the whole area Zillertal pass although you will have to get buses or a train to fully utilise. The same applies if you want to access the Hintertux Glacier. Fantastic snow park in the immediate Mayrhofen area if thats your thing. The town is lively and friendly with plenty of shops and places to eat and drink. If you want to grab a bite straight after coming down the hill, I would strongly recommended Gassers immediately opposite the Penken Bahn

Spent a week at this beautiful resort in January. As this resort is not super high up one has to use gondolas to get to ski area. Once up top the runs are nice and varied to suit all levels from reds a few blacks and some nice groomed blue runs. Plenty of lovely little food stops on the mountain serving a worse variety of food for all. Apre ski was EPIC on the mountain and then head into town for it to be continued. A great place for a quick feed at the famous Hans Butchers at the bottomOf the Penken Baan lift. All in all a great resort.
