Mayrhofen Review Summary
Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Hintertux for all year skiing
We were lucky that our accommodation was a short walk to the lifts, and it was a different experience for us staying down in the valley having to get lifts up to the skewers resort every morning… But that really wasn’t a problem.
Apres ski was fantastic, Slopes were not too busy at this time of year, plenty of bluebird days… A great week had by us both
Locals are extremely polite
Runs are groomed well and not overly busy
Views are incredible
Night life very much alive
Authentic Austrian town
We might go back to France next year only for the catered chalet with hot tub setup, which doesn’t seem to be available in Austria unless for a crazy price.
Would love to go back when they have more snow.
In Snowbombing season, expect great apres ski and lots of extra-curriculars on the slopes, bars and events.
Not being able to ski down off the mountain is a shame but that’s down to the town being so low down.
Efficient lift system serves a good selection of pisted runs for all abilities.
Plenty of opportunities to get off piste and return to join the rest of your party further down the hill.
On-piste drink and food can be both lively and hearty. Obviously some restaurants are better than others.
Best, as it is everywhere, to ski mid-week. If travelling by car at the weekend be prepared to sit in a long queue on the main Ziller valley road.
Goulash soup is a firm favourite.
Loads of skiing areas accessible by buses or the train.
Glacier skiing too.
Downside is the accommodation is expensive.
