What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Went for snowbombing festival, the town is very pretty, easy to store skis at the top of the gondola. Nice variety of food options. Good variety of runs. As I went in March, by the end of the day, most runs are slush but still able to ski. A lot of melted patches as well in March. Overall this didn’t impact my ability to ski. I think only one or two runs were closed. Ski lifts are very nice.

Went to Mayrhofen twice. Great all around. Great skiing area. The lifts are modern and the snow is reliable. It’s good for all levels. I can ski blacks but prefer reds and blues. I was never bored. Lovely food. Don’t forget to try garlic soup. Apres ski was so much fun. You will learn to sing some dodgy Austrian tunes. If you like to party check out Brück'n Stadl. Also worth visiting at least once is White lounge on Mount Ahorn. I haven’t seen anything like this anywhere else o skied. Unless I haven’t found it. Take a steam train from Mayrhofen to Jenbach and ski there for a day. You can see some great landscapes on the way. Mayrhofen town is very picturesque with traditional Austrian buildings. And if you want a break from skiing you can try some ice skating. Would definitely go back.

Been to Mayrhofen 5 times now, including once during Snowbombing festival in 2024. Every time it has been a great experience! Lots to do if you’re going with friends or family. The Snow park is great! But gets a bit icey later on in the day, so get there early. Really great resort, would definitely recommend

Good resort review abit skewed because the off piste isnt running due to lack of snow at the moment but groomed runs are spot on again just a tad icy due to the temperatures

Great variety of runs that span across the resort, good options for food and drinks on the mountain. Lift efficiency is great as you would expect from an European resort

Huge ski area accessible with frequent and efficient buses.
Good mix of interesting and scenic blues and reds (not very many black runs though).
Didn’t go off piste but looked like there were plenty of places to do so.
Really friendly vibe in the main resort.
Excellent restaurants, bars and cafes with good options for both keeping costs down and pushing the boat out.
Plenty of space on the pistes especially in the Hintertux (glacier) area.
Amazing snow conditions when we visited.

I stayed here from Jan - April 2025. It’s a nice little town with lots of shops, bars, and cafes. There are only a few Apre places in the town which get very busy and it’s impossible to enjoy as you are so squished. On the mountain there’s plenty of beautiful scenic runs. There are also a couple of places to Apres on the mountain but again it gets quite busy. Overall it’s a really nice place to ski.

Great resort to visit, stunning valley views with great apres bars. Especially recommend during Snowbombing festival if you want to party, but good even if you don't go during snowbombing. Very good snowboarder resort - pretty much all chairlifts, including the park! Plenty of different pistes for all levels. Also I highly recommend staying in a spa hotel, Mayrhofen has some great ones and Austrians know how to spa!

Mayrhofen made me love Austria and it’s definitely somewhere I’ll return to. It’s not the most beginner friendly but makes up for it in the nightlife and après

Great variety of slopes, friendly people around and lovely restaurants and bars on the slopes! Would 100% visit again. Our accommodation was a 30 second walk to the Gondola so really convenient and beautiful views from our balcony.

Mayrhofen often regarded as “snowboarding Mecca” and it lives up to the billing, amazing runs, beautiful scenery on the slopes, fun park, nice town and some great options for food and drinks too. Only caveat is that it’s quite low so make sure you go when there is lots of snow

The town was great with multiple routes up the mountain or to the glacier. There was more than enough runs to keep it interesting and the views were fantastic. I would say it was far better than France in my opinion. Apres was good also and there were some very nice restaurants, on the slopes and in town.

One of my fav resorts in Europe. Great town with an enormous, well served ski area and a glacier on its doorstep. Gets busy at the end of the season due to snow bombing festival but the lift system up at penken can handle the crowds. Fab place and the locals are always good crack too. One of the best in Austria IMO

We went end of season, so it was starting to get slushy in the afternoons, but still great fun on a snowboard. Nice (and affordable) selection of food on the expansive slopes, and several different interesting areas. Also we took a day trip to the glacier - included in the ski pass and impressively huge (although no treeline so less interesting).

Also the descent into the valley was very icy in the morning. Would probably suggest beginners avoid that run until it has some time to soften up.
