What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

This was my 3rd trip to Mayrhofen and as per the 2 previous trips, it didn’t disappoint.

The place is perfect for solo skiers, groups and families. There is something for everyone, from easy beginner slopes to the infamous Harakiri for those brave enough.

Plenty of km of groomed slopes with a fast, efficient lift system.

The resort itself is excellent, with plenty of options for Apres ski, shopping and eating out.

Single male snowboarer aged 53 , had a 19yr gap from when I last went and just got back into it . Mayrhoren has a vast amount of terrain that caters for all levels , I consider myself Intermediate to Advanced and using the super ski pass gave me plenty of variety of slopes to explore . The public transport by bus, coach or train to nearby resorts is really good and efficient and is covered free with your ski pass so you can explore different areas and alway have something new each day. For me my highlight was the Hintertux glacier that has mainly big wide red and blue open runs so you can really test out your board and let it go, but there's still lots of technical parts to keep you alert . Mayrhofen itself is a lovely town with plenty of good eating places and decent bars for apres at good value prices . I have been twice in a row now and won't count out another visit very soon . I'd say if you haven't been go for it, you'll love it .

Mayrhofen was great overall. The slopes are mostly well groomed although they do get carved up quite a bit throughout the day. Red runs do have snow piles though sometimes doing a quick turn would result in you dead stop due to the thick snow piles. However overall, the resort is really good, the blue runs are excellent which is what are most popular.

The resort is fairly big with ample selection of ski runs (some longer and shorter). They seem to be ok groomed and the slopes were fairly busy.
The apre was in full swing with quote a few restaurants although repetitive food options- burgers pizza etc.
The town itself is lovely, quaint with lots of accommodation options.
The ski lifts were always working and efficient.
The views at the top are some of the best!
Nothing really to complain about.

Mayrhofen was so much fun! Amazing resort with wicked apres-ski, quality restaurants and bars. Fantastic ski - we went for the snowbombing festival and even at its busiest, the runs were all pisted and it was plenty big enough to not be too crowded. The hintertux glacier is incredible - great selection of blues and reds, snowpark and amazing views.

As skiing gor the first time I found Mayrhofen extremely good for a complete beginner. The instructors were all very patient and encouraging. The nursery slopes were of a good mix size to build confidence. You have 2 mountains to shi The Penkin and The Aahorn. The later been very beginner friendly as well as offering something for the more expert skier. Apres ski kicks of in The Ice Bar a very vibrant stop off. You are spoilt for choice of food in the town but I must recommend the butchers opposite the penkin gondola. It's sooooo good.

The slopes were well groomed considering the lack of fresh snow at the time we visited. The snow park in Penken was great for some - and the bar at the bottom is fun for those like myself who don't ski park!

I've been to Mayrhofen twice in April for Snowbombing. It's the nost beautiful and breathtaking ski resort I've been to and the weather is perfect for spring skiing. The resort is huge covering several mountains with so many slopes and all good lengths, you could never get through it all in a day or two. Also has the Harakiri which is I believe the steepest slope in Europe at 80% incline

Really enjoyed the skiing, slopes were good. Mixed apres on the mountain - a couple of nice restaurants if you don’t want the self serve type. Personally I find the apres better in France.
