What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

As someone who has skied here many times I will say that it is one of the best resorts in Europe especially if you are a beginner and even when you become an expert.

We stayed at the Sports Strass hotel which was right next to the ski lift so we were up on the mountain in minutes! Ski hire, booking school, and getting ski passes was such a breeze. I had THE best time in Mayrhofen and so keen so go skiing again. Lovely variety of restaurants nearby and everyone was so kind.

I have absolutely loved this trip. We mainly skied at the Zillertal Arena as it was much quiter and had better quality and wider slopes. The slopes were absolutely great for allowing me to gain confidence on and trust my skis and technique more on red runs.I also attempted my first snowboarding lesson ever over here and although admittedly the cost was higher then what I have paid at other resorts for a private lesson, it was well worth it!The cost of food and drink in this resort feels alot higher then other resorts I have stayed in, in the past. Also alot of the bars are cash only and if you do pay by card it is an extortionate fee on top (5 extra in one of the locations). So I would definitely recommend having cash on you.We are also staying in Ramsau and although the bus connection is great, you are limited by the bus/ train schedules if you want to stay out longer for an apre. I would highly recommend staying closer to the resort if you want to enjoy an apre and the atmosphere of the town more!Overall, great slopes and conditions.

Fantastic ski resort. Excellent park, both baby park and huge big park with pro line. When snow is fresh off piste is great lots of options with forest and big open off piste areas. Very high resort so snow is always in good condition, different times of year give you different snow conditions but all season great for holidays!

Great resort, make sure that ski schools are booked in advance as we wasted time trying to get the kids enrolled whilst at the resort. You are also able to hire skis and boots at the top of the main lift saving having to carry skis everyday. The butchers opposite is great for a quick snack and drink at the end of the day.

Cracking skiing resort. Had a ton of snow so that helped. Some fantastic runs at all levels. Snow boarding school was only for 2 hours. My son needed more. Reasonably priced food in town and some good bars and good people. Loved it and would go again.

Visited Mayrhofen over New Years staying at Hotel Neuhaus. The slopes were really well kept and never got too busy despite the time of year. The lift pass also gives access to a train through the valley too so there are so many different slopes to ski.

Good mix of runs across the whole mountain. Does have one of the steepest runs in Austria, if you dare. Austrian resorts tend to be down in the valley, so its normal to get cable cars up to ski areas. We went in late March and 95% of the resort was open. Great freestyle Park and some good areas of off piste riding available. Transport is really well set up with buses and a train system, all on the ski pass. You can use this to ski other resort close by, easily for the day. Some lively bars for the Après and some lovely places to eat. Nice beginner area up at Ahorn thats a chill place to start if you have anyone who hasnt been in a while.

I love Mayrhofen and have been multiple times as a child and adult. The town is lovely, with fantastic food and restaurants, great hotels and chalets and easy access for lifts to get up to the slopes. The apre is great and you can generally walk anywhere you need to go in town quite easily. Looking forward to going back again with my wife soon.

Great resort if you want a bit if a buzz with apres ski. Lift system was incredibly comfortable and efficient, but given the gradation of the rest, there weren't many runs that joined up, so it required using the lifts quite often (ie run, then lift, then run).

Mayrhofen is apart of the Zillertal ski area with over 500 km of groomed piste theres more than enough area to be covered. The town itself is quaint with a bustling gently sloped Main Street. Starting near the base of the mountain where the penkenbahn lift station is located near the train station. Also near this destination is the nightroxx and brucknstadle which are two clubs offer fun apres fun. Depending on the time in the season as everywhere else the busyness Varys however the village is never to over run on like a select few Austrian resorts and many French resorts. The on piste is perfectly maintained and the off piste options are numerous but a guide is best to make the most of your time there. The town offers an array of of hotel options personally I thought the post hotel to be perfect in terms of service location and comfort. Eating out options are also multiple but Gasthof zimmerrei and el toro are my favorites. After dinner many bars are open with live music 5this is a great option if you dont wish to go clubbing. The ski lift system is ever improving most chairlifts have sheilds and many of them are heated. The resort is very family friendly with much leisure and relaxation to be achieved in the evenings. There are many pools and spas my personal favorite is zillergund rock spa . The resort is not a show stopper but is in my optinion massive value for money.

Great resort, lots of ski school options. Huge area with good variability and excellent (free!) ski bus connections. Easy to reach either via transfer or by train from Innsbruck. Good snow sure options with the glacier, even in warmer than ideal conditions. Each village offers something different, with quiet areas for families or older couples, and a fun apres scene in Mayrhofen itself. Keep coming back for a reason

The was my first experience of skiing and I fell in love with Mayrhofen. The views were incredible and the runs were really fun. I did ski school for three days which really helped improve my confidence and my instructor was very helpful. The food we ate at the top of the mountain was also lovely.
