What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen
Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

BUT as a newbie it was a really ideal place to start!
There were plenty of accommodation options which were very close to ski lifts, nice and simple to be able to get up to the mountain, there were numerous and easy to get to apres ski resorts on the mountain and the ski lifts were quick, easy and very organised, a pleasant experience I must say, as Ive heard some ski lifts are terrible
The runs were very well looked after and marked out, the only thing I would say is the blue runs were quite busy, but once I gained confidence and got onto the red runs it cleared up and was a lot better!
Id definitely recommend this area, but try to avoid the Snowbombing time if this isnt your vibe, as prices become inflated
I especially like the hotel with the rooftop pool.
Great apres-ski and lively atmosphere.
Limited slopes for beginners and the blue runs were challenging but the children got the hang of it in the end!
A wonderful holiday from start to finish
Really varied ski areas with off piste skiing available,
Great selection of bars and mid range priced restaurants,
Felt that the lifts were very busy when we went the last week of jan 2024 but they were well managed and the queues moved quickly
The food and drink options on the slopes were really good and varied, and reasonably priced compared to other resorts in Austria
There's a range of rental places, options to leave skis at the top and bottom of the gondola.
Lots of accommodation options for all budgets (we stayed in a more expensive half board place the first time and a very cheap self-catering accommodation the second time - both were clean and comfortable).
There's also lots of options for food, drink and apres ski, both up the mountain and in the town.
It's also very easy to get to the resort from Innsbruck Airport on public transport which we used both times. Would highly recommend Mayrhofen!
