What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

I love Mayrhofen and have been multiple times as a child and adult. The town is lovely, with fantastic food and restaurants, great hotels and chalets and easy access for lifts to get up to the slopes. The apre is great and you can generally walk anywhere you need to go in town quite easily. Looking forward to going back again with my wife soon.

Great resort if you want a bit if a buzz with apres ski. Lift system was incredibly comfortable and efficient, but given the gradation of the rest, there weren't many runs that joined up, so it required using the lifts quite often (ie run, then lift, then run).

Mayrhofen is apart of the Zillertal ski area with over 500 km of groomed piste theres more than enough area to be covered. The town itself is quaint with a bustling gently sloped Main Street. Starting near the base of the mountain where the penkenbahn lift station is located near the train station. Also near this destination is the nightroxx and brucknstadle which are two clubs offer fun apres fun. Depending on the time in the season as everywhere else the busyness Varys however the village is never to over run on like a select few Austrian resorts and many French resorts. The on piste is perfectly maintained and the off piste options are numerous but a guide is best to make the most of your time there. The town offers an array of of hotel options personally I thought the post hotel to be perfect in terms of service location and comfort. Eating out options are also multiple but Gasthof zimmerrei and el toro are my favorites. After dinner many bars are open with live music 5this is a great option if you dont wish to go clubbing. The ski lift system is ever improving most chairlifts have sheilds and many of them are heated. The resort is very family friendly with much leisure and relaxation to be achieved in the evenings. There are many pools and spas my personal favorite is zillergund rock spa . The resort is not a show stopper but is in my optinion massive value for money.

Great resort, lots of ski school options. Huge area with good variability and excellent (free!) ski bus connections. Easy to reach either via transfer or by train from Innsbruck. Good snow sure options with the glacier, even in warmer than ideal conditions. Each village offers something different, with quiet areas for families or older couples, and a fun apres scene in Mayrhofen itself. Keep coming back for a reason

The was my first experience of skiing and I fell in love with Mayrhofen. The views were incredible and the runs were really fun. I did ski school for three days which really helped improve my confidence and my instructor was very helpful. The food we ate at the top of the mountain was also lovely.

Great value trip, great value while there. Friendly locals ready to look after their guests and know how to have a good time up until 2am if you want!Skiing variability is great, always snow sure and can visit other resorts in the same valley for the lift pass cost with simple transport options. There is a reason they host 3 festivals throughout the ski season!

Mayrhofen is great for all types of riding, the park is great (despite being quite intimidating), you can always find pockets of powder in the trees and long leg burning runs to get you back to the base. Lots of food & drink options to choose from, with varying styles & pricing

Love this resort! I've been here a few times with friends, family, and even solo. Plenty of runs, the apres has a true party vibe. Everyone's friendly and the beer is reasonably priced. Snowbombing festival is a must for the younger ones, although, even at 40 I still had a blast. Plenty of hotels to choose, from highend to budget, there's something for everyone. Highly recommended

Beautiful resort with great accommodation, friendly locals and great slopes. Not the cheapest European resort to stay at, but good value for money! Just be aware that Mayrhofen hosts Snowbombing festival during the last week of the season so if thousands of ravers in fancy dress isnt your scene that may not be the week to visit!

Initially thought this might be slightly limited for higher intermediate riders with limited blacks, but found some good going and after some good snowfall and some decent tracks between runs to add some challenge and mix up our skiing. Plenty of options for intermediates in the group and some really good apres too. Prettier than a lot of French resorts too.
Mayrhofen is a good base for family ski trip or couple or groups. Plenty options for place to stay, for eating, also shopping. Price for meals for eating out it's a bit high but most place we went served a good food. Shops in general have good prices for snowsport equipments. There are few suprrmarkets too if you just want to pack your lunch instead of eating up in the mountain and pay premium price. There is public swimming pool and sauna that we went to and we enjoyed it. Only that children is not allowed in sauna but there are 2 slippery sides and fun pool to enjoy as family.
