What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen
Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Skiing territory is vast and varied - theres something there for everyone. But for intermediate and expert skiers, Id say you should expect a full week of lively challenges across a ton of runs.
One thing I didnt love about the resort is that its well below the actual skiing area, so you need to take an initial lift up to get to the bottom of the runs. In practice, youll need to take an extra lift up in the morning, and an extra lift back down to the village at the end of the day (sort of a buzzkill for spontaneous apres-ski.).
Beyond that inconvenience though, the resort has everything youd want in a great resort. Highly recommended overall.
Good variety of runs.
The train to other resorts further down the valley was fun.
The ski area is large and varied but not much for true beginners. Nearly all the runs are red with a few signature blacks. The grading of the runs is honest. You know what you are getting. Reds are neither too easy or too hard and the blacks are what they should be (including the famous Harikiri).
The lift system is exceptional. Modern and fast with no queuing. The mountain is well served with restaurants and bars. The Apres scene before the gondola back to town is great fun.
The eisbär is a personal highlight although the downside of this was that kicking my liver took over the course of a week. Food was also great, we found a schnitzel place which was a bit of a mainstay for the week very good!
There are a good selection of runs in the resort although we didnt have the opportunity to take many long treks out there. Personal favourite was the harikiri and even more so watching people coming down it from the lift. Because of the valley, at certain times of the day we were finding harikiri was quite shaded and ended up being quite icy but still good fun!
I wouldnt hesitate to head back to mayrhofen either for a family or lads trip!
Each resort has a totally different feels which makes for a diverse and interesting holiday
Good about of snow for late in season but slightly slushy.
Good selection of restaurants and reasonable priced for a ski town.
Good apres ski due to the festival.
Not the biggest amount of ski runs but Good for a short week
