What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Loved the town and vibe,

Really varied ski areas with off piste skiing available,
Great selection of bars and mid range priced restaurants,
Felt that the lifts were very busy when we went the last week of jan 2024 but they were well managed and the queues moved quickly
The food and drink options on the slopes were really good and varied, and reasonably priced compared to other resorts in Austria

Easy to navigate and good options of pistes for all levels of skiers. Only downside is having to get a lift off the slope at the end of the day as you can't ski down into the town.

The resort has an amazing range of slopes, with easy access on the train to to other nearby resorts. I have been twice now and we did a week skiing previously, visiting 3 other locations, and 3 days skiing more recently when we spent all 3 days in Mayrhofen.
There's a range of rental places, options to leave skis at the top and bottom of the gondola.
Lots of accommodation options for all budgets (we stayed in a more expensive half board place the first time and a very cheap self-catering accommodation the second time - both were clean and comfortable).
There's also lots of options for food, drink and apres ski, both up the mountain and in the town.
It's also very easy to get to the resort from Innsbruck Airport on public transport which we used both times. Would highly recommend Mayrhofen!

Been multiple times and have a great experience on each holiday. The ski culture is brilliant and in particular the Harikari run (extremely steep) and the ski park are great fun. Lots of slopes of all types and the lifts are modern and fast. Would recommend!

Lifts great and quick. Bars excellent. Lots different restaurants on and off piste. Great With access to over 142 km of pistes, the resort caters to all skill levels, from gentle beginner slopes to the steep Harakiri run, one of Europes steepest. The Penken and Ahorn ski areas provide a mix of challenging runs and scenic cruising. Off the slopes, Mayrhofen boasts lively après-ski venues, excellent dining options, and traditional Tyrolean hospitality. Its lift infrastructure is efficient, minimizing wait times. Whether for skiing, snowboarding, or enjoying the picturesque scenery, Mayrhofen delivers a memorable alpine experience.

We really enjoyed our time in mayrhofen, there was a great selection of restaurants both on piste and in the village. There are lots of nice hotels, bakeries and restaurants. We visited during Covid so the apres was a little dull but we could tell that it would normally be great.

Great place for snowboards. We ended up hanging out with a few other boarders and ended up partying with them for the remainder of the holiday.

Having visited Mayerhofen on a few occasions, it has something to offer for all abilities, skiing or boarding.
Yhe gondola takes you up yo the base of the Penken area
From there, another chair or 2 take you to the top of that dude. A lot of the xku schools start there, and on the first day, it's quite busy. At the top of the second chair, you can cut across into the valley, eith a myriad if runs and chairs on either side. There is the Park, sponsored by a different brand almost every year. At the far end of this, the huge gondola takes you up to another valley entrance a long road run brings you round, again, various runs around the valley, if you choose the run film onto Eggalm is a fantastic tree lined run, a couple of miles long. You can grab lunch in the village. Then head back up or catch a bus to Hinter Tux, the glacier. In Mayerhofen the other option is that Ahorn. A huge gondola takes you to the top, with an 8 man quad chair, it's the ideal beginners area. Dtopping down beyond it, there's another chair back up, about a 3rd of the way down. If your feeling fit, you can run right down to the gondola and session the whole home run. It's a fantastic mountain run. Sections were regraded black , but the reality is more a dark red. I won't go into the reasons here. Something for everyone, the Ice Bar at the base of the Penkn Gondola for the ultimate Austrian Apres ski. There's the Hari Kari for later evening entertainment , along with various bars and lots of quality eateries. If you have an all area pass, you get free travel on the trains and buses between Zell Am Zimmer, Mayerhofen and Hinter Tux. It's a bargain and has something for everyone.

Wish the off piste was better and had longer runs. Accessibility for snowboarders is some of the best Ive ever had. Penken park is very fun. Ski pass is very cheap compared to other places and gives you access to so much up the whole valley. The resort is lovely especially at Christmas

Mayrhofen is a great resort, with the best feature being the access to he different mountains via the snowpass.
The hakiri is a fun run which, like alot of the runs on that side of the basin, can get very icy.
There's a lot of terrain parks aswell.

We went during Snowbombing, which was an atypical week to go. Busier slopes and much livelier apres with th festival being on, but the vibe was great. It was easy to get a bus or train to neighbouring resorts too.
