What Skiers Say About Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many users noting it's less suited to complete beginners due to limited green runs and some challenging blues. The resort is consistently praised for its modern, efficient lift system, well-groomed pistes, and extensive skiable terrain across the Zillertal valley, including glacier access at Hintertux. Users frequently mention the lively après-ski scene, particularly at mountain bars and in the town centre, though some note it can feel overcrowded during peak times and festivals like Snowbombing. The low altitude of the town is a recurring concern, with several reviewers reporting slushy conditions in the afternoons, especially later in the season, and the inability to ski back down to the valley.

Best time to go is during the Snowbombing festival in April. Its brilliant going up the slopes, skiing in a T-shirt and then coming down to 29° weather in the town.

Great place went last year for Snowbombing, would highly recommend to party goers that like to ski. Great views on the morning if you can get to sloes early enough and usually quiet in the AM

Have been to Mayrhoffen twice and had a great week each time. The town is small, but lovely, and there are reasonably priced accommodations right in town.
Skiing territory is vast and varied - theres something there for everyone. But for intermediate and expert skiers, Id say you should expect a full week of lively challenges across a ton of runs.
One thing I didnt love about the resort is that its well below the actual skiing area, so you need to take an initial lift up to get to the bottom of the runs. In practice, youll need to take an extra lift up in the morning, and an extra lift back down to the village at the end of the day (sort of a buzzkill for spontaneous apres-ski.).
Beyond that inconvenience though, the resort has everything youd want in a great resort. Highly recommended overall.

Like most Austrian resorts, Mayrhofen is a real authentic town which gives it much character, compared to purpose built apartment cities high up the mountain.
The ski area is large and varied but not much for true beginners. Nearly all the runs are red with a few signature blacks. The grading of the runs is honest. You know what you are getting. Reds are neither too easy or too hard and the blacks are what they should be (including the famous Harikiri).
The lift system is exceptional. Modern and fast with no queuing. The mountain is well served with restaurants and bars. The Apres scene before the gondola back to town is great fun.

Mayrhofen has everything you could ask for from a skiing holiday and good transfer time too. If you want a bouncing apre ski filled time after reds, blacks and off piste, the main town has it, or if a quiet get away exploring new terrain is on the cards, make us of the train and head to one of other smaller resorts in the Ziller Valley all covered on the same pass. No snow at the end of the season, no problem head to the glacier at Hintertux.

Really nice village with a great atmosphere, making it great for apres ski, ski conditions in March were ok in the morning but could be slushy in afternoon due to warm temperatures and not the highest of altitude, varied slopes from beginner all the way to advanced, has an amazing snow park called Penken park for any boarders and free skiers, also home of the famous Harikari black run, all in all a great resort with a lot going for it and an amazing village accommodates the party atmosphere but also has its place for familys

Great resort, nice having a functional village to be based in, means food and drink is well priced. Main lift out the village is very efficient, we never experienced any delays. Only trouble is you rely on that to get back so don't miss the last lift! Great place can highly recommend.

Mayrhofen was a really fun holiday. Skiing wise, I felt there was a little bit less in offer than some French holidays Ive been on, but it made up for it with the aprés.

The eisbär is a personal highlight although the downside of this was that kicking my liver took over the course of a week. Food was also great, we found a schnitzel place which was a bit of a mainstay for the week very good!

There are a good selection of runs in the resort although we didnt have the opportunity to take many long treks out there. Personal favourite was the harikiri and even more so watching people coming down it from the lift. Because of the valley, at certain times of the day we were finding harikiri was quite shaded and ended up being quite icy but still good fun!

I wouldnt hesitate to head back to mayrhofen either for a family or lads trip!

I went skiing here for Snowbombing 2024 and had an incredible experience! We stayed in the Strass Hotel right next to the Penkenbahn which was a perfect location. You can get up the mountain in 20 minutes! The runs were quiet and had great views. The conditions were slushy but thats to be expected at the end of the season. The Penken Park had jumps and rails for beginners and experts. I didnt have a go myself but enjoyed watching the riders from the apres bar next to it. Piste 67 was my favourite run, wish I had more time to get to explore more runs on the mountain. Everyone I met in the town was happy and friendly, particularly Hans the Butcher and all his staff. The locals also appear to love getting involved in the festival. The staff in the ski hire shop (Manni) were friendly and efficient. The food and drink venues were great. Beautiful town and great skiing 10/10 would love to spend a whole season there.

Fun area, slight hard to navigate as the only link to the Rastkogel end is an overcrowded cable car. Apres lives up to its reputation
