Went here for snowbombing 2024 great sbow even at end of season going back in January loved it so much slopes were well kept and great conditions. Cant think of a downsides great for snowboarding and skiing off all levels.

Mayrhofen was a really fun holiday. Skiing wise, I felt there was a little bit less in offer than some French holidays Ive been on, but it made up for it with the aprés.

The eisbär is a personal highlight although the downside of this was that kicking my liver took over the course of a week. Food was also great, we found a schnitzel place which was a bit of a mainstay for the week very good!

There are a good selection of runs in the resort although we didnt have the opportunity to take many long treks out there. Personal favourite was the harikiri and even more so watching people coming down it from the lift. Because of the valley, at certain times of the day we were finding harikiri was quite shaded and ended up being quite icy but still good fun!

I wouldnt hesitate to head back to mayrhofen either for a family or lads trip!

I went skiing here for Snowbombing 2024 and had an incredible experience! We stayed in the Strass Hotel right next to the Penkenbahn which was a perfect location. You can get up the mountain in 20 minutes! The runs were quiet and had great views. The conditions were slushy but thats to be expected at the end of the season. The Penken Park had jumps and rails for beginners and experts. I didnt have a go myself but enjoyed watching the riders from the apres bar next to it. Piste 67 was my favourite run, wish I had more time to get to explore more runs on the mountain. Everyone I met in the town was happy and friendly, particularly Hans the Butcher and all his staff. The locals also appear to love getting involved in the festival. The staff in the ski hire shop (Manni) were friendly and efficient. The food and drink venues were great. Beautiful town and great skiing 10/10 would love to spend a whole season there.

Part of a massive ski area with four resorts under one pass with plenty of terrain for all abilities.
Each resort has a totally different feels which makes for a diverse and interesting holiday

Fun area, slight hard to navigate as the only link to the Rastkogel end is an overcrowded cable car. Apres lives up to its reputation

Such a friendly, fun and lovely ski resort. Advanced lifts systems and gondolas up the mountain and plenty of runs easily accessible by the chair lifts. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a ski and après holiday. 10/10, I will be back.

It was a great resort with many different runs of varying difficulty. Most suited to an intermediate level skier or snowboarder due it being harder to reach blue slopes. But the slopes are amazing with great views.

Food and drink was really good on the mountain and was a good price. And the same goes for in the town.

Great resort but dont get caught out by staying up the steep hill or bottom end of the village.

Last run down at the end of the day is a black If on the wrong side of the mountain.

Looking for a ski holiday that will tick all your family requests? Large ski area, no queues, great apre ski, relaxing hotel and on a budget. Sounds almost impossible.
Well I think I managed to find the answer. The Austrian resort of Mayrhofen with its huge array of slopes mixed with a pretty town with typical Tyrolean architecture and its lively nightlife. Then mix in the conveniently situated Sport & Spa Hotel Strass youve got a cocktail for a perfect family ski holiday.
Bründl Sports supplied our ski equipment which all looked brand new. Staff here advised us on which type of ski and boots would suite our families range of skiing experience, from beginners to seasoned skiers. Plus no need to worry if we needed to change anything at a later date either. Bründl Sports have a shop situated at the top of the main Penkenbahnn lift station, so no trekking back down the mountain. One last item before heading off to the slopes, and it should be second nature to all skiers helmets are a must and are available to hire at a very small cost.

For our family, a mixture of adults and teenagers, the Sport & Spa Hotel Strass was a fantastic choice, with large family rooms all having the important free Wifi for the younger members of the family. There are two spa areas with various saunas, and a hot tub for the adults. Massage and beauty treatments are also available too. A good tip is a bathrobe which can be rented at the spar reception at no cost, apart from a deposit. There are also plenty of bars to choose from. One being the popular lively Ice Bar which tends to be the first stop for skiers after a day on the slopes.
The food at the Strass really is first class, from the buffet breakfast with an extensive choice to fill any teenagers appetite, to the evening five-course meal, theres something for every taste.
For wine lovers a must is the local Austrian variety, both red and white, which are perfect to accompany your meal, or on its own, as the price wont break the bank. With a bottle starting at 15 euros, or, if you fancy a beer, four euros will get you a large one.
On the slopes Mayrhofen offers something for all skiers. Beginner runs are safely tucked away with their own lifts. Leaving the more experienced skiers to head down into the huge bowl that combines lots of charming, tree-lined runs with the likes of Harakiri, the steepest run in the Alps.
There are six main areas, the Penken, Horberg, Ahorn, Finkenberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm, all interlinked with a range of new lifts keeping queues down to a very low level. However the Ahorn area does stand alone across the valley, but with its lift station being only a short walk from the Strass Hotel, its well worth a visit.
Even closer is the main Penkenbahn cable car, the starting point for most of your days skiing, and its only one minutes walk from the Strass hotel boot room.
Back on the slopes, we found most of the piste trails above the treeline, so spent most of our days skiing high up the mountain, with some notable exceptions when we managed to ski back down the base of the valley using route 30 down to Hippach, and the Ahorns piste trail 5, which we found great fun albeit lacking some snow in areas, but still well worth it.
Meal time on the mountain is no problem apart from choosing one of the many mountain restaurants all slightly different but each offering fabulous cakes, drinks and even teenager-friendly meals such as Wiener schnitzel (breaded veal of chicken cutlet) and chips. With a meal plus drinks for five costing an average of 60 euros we found it great value and not lacking in quality, compared to other ski resorts weve visited in the past.
For those looking for lessons in Mayrhofen, I would highly recommend the local SMT ski school. Their classes start right outside the top of the Penkenbahn cable car. The days are split into two two-hour sessions, with a timely break in the middle of the day. My youngest son had five days under the watchful eye of SMT instructor Bo, who amazingly took him from a nursery slop beginner to a confident red run skier, enabling him to keep up with the rest of the family.
All in all, finding the perfect family holiday can be an arduous task, and an exercise in compromise for anyone. If you take my advice and try a blend of Mayrhofen mixed in the Sport & Spa Hotel Strass, add a dash of SMT ski school and a slice of Bründl Sports, your family wont be disappointed with the result. Plus it wont leave a hangover in your bank balance it really is the perfect holiday cocktail.

Went for a ski festival, quality place mint all round. The restaurants, bars and night life are good. Whilst the ski runs are amazing too. I highly recommend

You cant review Mayrhofen in isolation. The whole Zillertal valley is at your ski tips. The Mayrhofen resort is low in the valley and requires a large fast telecabine to get up to the ski area. Very beginner friendly, very quiet and varied, it offers a lot. A good skier will complete it in a couple of days. After that, the train/bus system can take you to the Hinter Tux glacier, Fugen/Hich Fugen, Zillertal Arena and more.

The apres in Mayrhofen is absolutely banging! A true party town. From the Eurotrash JA JA ding dong of Brucknstudl to the more modern Hari Kari and everything in between. Tighten your lederhosen and get ready for a frantic Jäger rally!

Stayed in Hippach, so took the Horbergbahn up the mountain with our kids. It is very efficient and brings you into a white wonder world in no time. Kids had a great time at the ski school (the reds). And after skiing enjoyed a little apres ski in 1 of the 2 apres ski bars next to the lift station. All in all had a great week last Christmas.

Fabulous extensive ski area, for all abilities. Great town with lots of amenities and entertainment throughout the whole day.
Would highly recommend this resort for a holiday.
