What Skiers Say About Whistler Blackcomb

Whistler Blackcomb attracts skiers and snowboarders across all ability levels, from beginners to experts. Reviewers consistently praise the massive skiable terrain across two mountains, the variety of runs including off-piste and tree skiing, and the efficient lift system connecting Whistler and Blackcomb via the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Snow conditions are frequently mentioned as variable, with several users noting rain at lower elevations, icy patches, and inconsistent coverage depending on the season. The resort is repeatedly described as expensive, with high costs for lift tickets, accommodation, food, and dining both on and off the mountain. Lift queues, particularly on weekends and peak times, are a common complaint, with waits of 20-40 minutes reported at busy periods.

Whistler/Blackcomb is the apex ski resort in the western hemisphere. The skiable terrain on the resort alone is impressively varied with tons of options for skiers and snowboarders of any level. Most importantly, the variety is this resorts best quality when the snow conditions and or weather are not ideal. Socked in at the peak? Duck into any of the lower glades for some fun technical turns. Trust the locals, youll want a good all mountain gear and gore-Tex for the pacific north west. Many who ski here will have multiple skis in their quiver to tackle the snow conditions on different days. This also goes for goggles. Youll want a couple lens options when the weather systems roll in. Some of the best lift capacity and efficiency in the world, and when youre ready for off-piste, this mountain will truly reward you. All of this comes at a steep price. The accommodations are world class, five star dining right down to dive bar fun. Is a day on the hill worth almost $300CDN? That depends on how much mountain you think you can cover.

Reasonable transfer time from Vancouver. Good piste grooming but also some runs left ungroomed. Good range of accommodation options, condos expensive. Most of the ski hire shops appear to be controlled by the resort; not many independents.
Huge range of differing pistes from almost flat blues to some gnarly blacks so something for everyone. Heliskiing opens up a potentially vast area of off-piste in uninhabited wilderness, brilliant.
Final runs into the village centres can get congested at the end of the day and late in the season can get very slushy.
Usually lots of snow but the proximity of the Pacific Ocean means that it can sometimes be somewhat wet and heavy.

We love Whistler...

The drive up to Whistler from Vancouver on the Sea to Sky highway is breathtaking... it's also worth taking in Squamish and the Sea to Sky gondola on route if you have time.

Canadian hospitality has to be one of the best, eating out is exciting, especially when visiting the Mongolie Grill, such a great concept being able to choose your own ingredients and have it cooked right in front of you on a large rotating round griddle!

The slopes are perfect for our type of skiing, plenty of wide open runs that all meet up at the bottom, so no chance of getting lost in this vast area of two superb mountains.
There is plenty of off piste areas too including a steep decent called Spanky's Ladder... a double Black and not for the feint hearted!

The Peak 2 Peak gondola is the longest span cable car.
Worlds longest unsupported span for a lift of this kind at 3.024km/1.88miles and the worlds highest lift of its kind at 436m/1,427ft above the valley floor.

We LOVE Whistler!

Unarguably one of the best resorts in the world... but increasingly reliant on having sufficient $ to access it. Outside of peak times and weekends it can be an absolute pleasure, but when the snow comes in it is often followed by the entire population of Vancouver and the queues...

Whistler is great, the liens can be long at times but when you're up there it's fantastic. Loads of terrain, it's endless. Mountain restaurants aren't that great, just bring a lunch with you. The lifts stop all the time.

On a good day Whistler will provide the best skiing experience of your life, especially for those who love skiing above the treeline and finding different lines. Nothing beats a good snow day at Whistler. With that being said, between rain or rapid changes in temperature the mountain conditions can change quickly and become icy, very slushy and frankly un enjoyable to ski in a short amount of time. There is always something to find on the hill but under poorer conditions I am unsure if it justifies the 300$ lift ticket but on a good day it sure does!

Kicking off the ski season at Whistler Blackcomb was an absolute treat! The powder on opening day was fantastic, with a solid snow base already setting the stage for an incredible season ahead. The terrain was in great shape, offering everything from smooth groomers to fluffy off-piste runs.

While the food can be on the pricey side, the overall experience more than makes up for it. A must-do is grabbing a beer at the Umbrella Barits the perfect spot to soak in the breathtaking views and unwind after an amazing day on the slopes.

If this is the start of the season, I cant wait to see whats next! Highly recommended for anyone looking to make the most of winter.

Whistler is amazing for a number of reasons, firstly the mountain range is fantastic and accessible for all levels. The backcountry/tree skiing/off piste is second to none and there are runs curated for all types of skiers. My favourite run at the moment is Ross Gold - bomb down it and youll catch some wicked air!
