What Skiers Say About Sun Peaks

Sun Peaks attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with families being a significant visitor group. Reviewers consistently highlight the large terrain spread across three mountains, minimal lift queues even during peak periods, and exceptionally well-groomed runs. The resort is described as quiet and uncrowded compared to other BC destinations, with a small pedestrian village offering ski-in/ski-out accommodation. Common criticisms centre on limited restaurant options requiring advance booking, lack of vibrant nightlife or après-ski atmosphere, and variable snow conditions with some seasons experiencing rain or thin coverage. Several users note the resort can feel over-groomed for those seeking powder.

Our family has been heading to Sun Peaks for Spring Break for many years now. Weve made some fabulous memories and try to cover all the runs - collectively - over the week. Weve had four generations ski with legendary local - Nancy Green Raine. The powder has been epic, corduroy fabulous for carving, lots of variety when it comes to terrain, a fun alpine village, and lots to do other than skiing - nordic skiing, skating, tubing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, shopping, and a great night life!

Ive been skiing at sun peaks for decades. Its my go-to mountain and my #1 recommended mountain. It has a friendly community with some awesome runs. Its not super packed like Whistler and has the same, if not better, terrain.

The hills are wide, and the snow is light and powdery. The sun is almost always shining and you feel super happy all day.

I may be biased because I grew up going to this mountain, but am always backed up on my opinion by people I meet who do not have the same relationship with the mountain as I do. I now live in the US and have skiers tell me about how they went to sun peaks and fell in love the mountain.

Go! GO!!!

I went over Christmas to Sun peaks and even with the small amount of lifts there were no queues! Very off piste runs but to get to the great ones you have to walk up

My experience at Sun peaks has been overall positive. If I were to think of the pros and cons Id probably say the pros are: its extremely family friendly, the value you get out of a day pass and seasons pass is phenomenal considering its Canadas second largest resort, plenty of greens and blues for beginners to progress, great tree runs as Sun peaks is also used for mountain biking, great terrain park with a lot of features, and last but certainly not least, lines are practically non existent, even on the busiest days the lines never exceed 10 minutes. However to list the cons: it doesnt get nearly as much snow as other resorts in the area like whistler or Revelstoke, fairly limited black diamonds and double blacks when compared to blues and greens, no big mountain terrain, extremely limed off-piste terrain(although the Gils was recently incorporated into the resort its the closest thing it has to off-piste/side-country), food can be a bit pricey(pro-tip go to mountain high pizza and they have $4CAD cold slices if youre not looking to spend to much), and lastly the roads up to Sun peaks can get backed up sometimes especially after a snowfall.

Home mountain, grooming is unbeatable, best grooming Ive ever skied, unfortunately there is a lack of real expert terrain and access to good quality expert off piste skiing. The overwhelming majority of sun peaks black diamonds feel like steep blues, with exceptions on the moguls.
Very family friendly and the food at bottoms is incredible, lots of local cafes on resort and all have great baked goods.
Trees and glades are/can be extremely tight here which make for challenging and fun skiing, but is extremely tough for people used to nice open glades like sunshine or revelstoke.

Sun Peaks is an amazingly varied ski resort with something for everyone - groomed, off-piste, park, learning zones, cross country etc. The staff are super friendly and the lifts are always efficient - queues go down quick even during the holidays as the lift operations team are great. The food and drink scene is also great for everyone, those just wanting a quick snack or coffee to those wanting a great dining experience or a late night dance floor.

Sun Peaks shines best when you go as a group. Unfortunately little Pow to be found each time I went (mother natures fault), but we were a group of broad skiing/riding ability and were easily able to have a great group trip and got to stick together the whole time - the size of Sun Peaks provides great terrain for the little ones and beginners as well as more advance terrain. Im not a great park rider, but the park was impressively set up to be as enticing as possible and even I enjoyed lapping it - something I never enjoy at my home hill.

Our backyard playground. Yes its the second largest in Canada has great facilities and a solid reputation as a family resort. Typically its not that busy, weekends and holidays can get jammed lines but they do move nicely. The upside at SP, family satisfaction, park, groomers, trees and some steeps are all easily accessible. The downside, not enough exposure/steeps to satisfy the older kids (and adult kids at heart), doesnt get the big powder dumps and are making real estate driven investments vs rider experience investments.
