What Skiers Say About Sunshine Village
Sunshine Village attracts skiers and snowboarders of all levels, from beginners to experts, with many reviewers highlighting the extensive terrain spread across three interconnected mountains. The snow quality and powder receive consistent praise, alongside the variety of runs and lack of serious lift queues compared to European or other North American resorts. Reviewers frequently mention the long season, high elevation, and well-groomed pistes. Common criticisms include expensive lift tickets and on-mountain food, flat sections that challenge snowboarders, limited on-mountain accommodation, and the distance from Banff requiring gondola access. Several users note that the resort is family-friendly but lacks a strong après-ski atmosphere on the mountain itself.

The bunny hill is not the best and can get a little crowded but the environment of sunshine is sooo unique and beautiful and fun!
A chair lift, and short hike and you’re in the middle of the Canadian Rockies. The staff is friendly, the ride in the gondola is romantic and fun, the views are incredible; parking is chaotic a little but all around wonderful.
Early season so not all runs open
Signage could have been clearer
Parking was easy
The only downfall is a lot of flats which make it a bit harder for snowboarders
Recommend for skiing 1 day.
Solid amount of snow
Happy to be there
Sunshine is really huge, a great range of runs and I hardly ever experienced lift lines. Even on busy days such as Easter Monday you don’t queue for even half the time you would at some resorts in France, The food and drink is also a lot cheaper in Canadian resorts compared to the Alps however, still pricey.
Due to Banff being such a high resort you can still get dumps and excellent snow quality late into the season, as late as May!
The only things I would say is the Apres ski and after ski parties are not the resort’s strong suit, it’s more family friendly. However, the nightlife in Banff town is unmatched and it can be an excellent social place. There’s a huge range of restaurants and bars at various price points in the town, however accommodation and groceries can be expensive.
There is also a drawback in that the town is about a 15/20min drive from the ski resort and then you have to get a gondola up so can take an hour to actually get skiing. There is an on-mountain hotel but I picture this is pricey and you’re beholden to the gondola times as to when you can go up and down the mountain to get the bus to the town.
Overall, not the most convenient ski-in/ski-out resort but Banff is a town that everyone should visit. You can make it very cost effective and the ski resort is big and varied for riders no matter their experience. What’s more is if you’re in Banff for the week you can take a 40 min bus to the Lake Louise ski area (HIGHLY recommended)
