St. Anton: Best for Après-Ski & Off-Piste

Imagine this: By day, you’re carving through deep powder on elite off-piste runs in the 5th largest ski area in the world. By night, you’re munching iconic schnitzels and drinking steins, before heading out into one of the best Après-Ski cultures in Austria. Söll - SkiWelt: Best for Groomed Runs

For consistent, perfectly conditioned slopes, Söll is the resort to visit this winter. The SkiWelt allows for an incredible range of skiing, as it's one of Austria’s largest interconnected ski areas. An immense number of lifts and gondolas service over 200 runs spanning 275kms, that are all kept in immaculate condition. Jason backs this up by saying Söll has “everything you need for an excellent ski holiday... Plenty of great well-groomed pistes and fab back trails”. 10kms of those slopes are illuminated by floodlights, opening the mountain up to night skiing and tobogganing.

Kühtai: Best for Lift Efficiency

One of the struggles of staying in resorts where the accommodation is far from the slopes, is the pain of lugging all your gear around. This is a struggle you can forget about at Kühtai, thanks to its entirely ski-in/ski-out nature. Pair that with superbly groomed pistes, and you have a great resort to take the family to.

Discover one of the best kept secrets in the Innsbruck region with its high-altitude and great value for money. The incredible lift efficiency is the highest praise that Kühtai receives, with skiers like Bejamin saying it’s “very quiet, almost no lift lines even on the weekend”. Kühtai offers the best mix of ski and city. The ski area is compact but still allows for variety across its 33 runs, and is positioned between 2,020m and 2,520m above sea level.

Venet: Best for Value

With the ever-increasing prices of ski resort passes and accommodation, it’s hard to find wallet-friendly ski resorts nowadays. Thankfully Venet offers a more affordable option for those who want a change from tourist-heavy ski hubs. This quieter resort near the town of Landeck offers picturesque views of local mountains, along 12kms of slopes catering to intermediates and beginners who want to kick it up a notch. Those true beginners and families with kids might struggle though, as there’s no accommodating ski areas or schools in Venet. We recommend the Riefe kids’ skiing area in Zams for families as an alternative.

Kitzbühel: Best for Heritage

Feel like switching things up a bit, and having a ski trip where you can reside in one of the most iconic and tradition towns the Austrian Tirol has to offer? Kitzbühel is the resort to check out this season then. A medieval town centre with history, an elegant resort, the world-famous Hahnenkamm downhill race, and terrain for all levels, makes this resort an experience no one should miss. The resort is also famous for its wide and perfectly groomed pistes.

Francesca praises: “The beautiful charming town has an abundance of restaurants and bars, and has plenty of non-mountain based activities for those who may not be keen skiers. For those who are, it’s even more brilliant”.

Mayrhofen: Best for Experts

Experts, the best of the best, here’s the resort that’ll tick all your boxes. Mayrhofen holds 142 kms of slopes (over 500km for those using the Zillertal Super Ski Pass), and is situated in the Zillertal Valley. This lively resort has something for everyone, 91 runs with a good number of beginner and intermediate slopes too.

For those expert skiers though, boy does Mayrhofen impress. Home to the infamous Harakiri, one of the steepest slopes in Europe, and runs that vary “from wide open pistes to technical black runs”, as John describes.
