We spent Christmas 2023 in St Johan. We stayed out side town and at the base of the lifts for ease. Being Austria even though it was the warmest winter we've ever skied there was still plenty to go at. In the ski jewel area there are some cute huts, it's friendly, it's family friendly and also a great base. We got super ski passes and with a short (free) train ride were able to ski kitzbuel and ski welt areas which made for awesome big days out. Also meany different options for apres.

FAQs Skiers' Most Asked Questions
St. Johann in Tirol FAQs: Skiers' Most Asked Questions
Is St. Johann in Tirol snow-sure?
St. Johann in Tirol isn't particularly snow-sure by Austrian standards. Several Snomad users mention relying on good grooming rather than natural snow. Liz, an intermediate skier, noted: "Being Austria even though it was the warmest winter we've ever skied there was still plenty to go at." The resort sits at a relatively low elevation (659m-1604m), making it more vulnerable to milder temperatures. However, the efficient lift system (4.45/5) and well-groomed runs (4.64/5) help maximise whatever snow is available.
What mountain range is St. Johann in Tirol part of?
St. Johann in Tirol is nestled in the Kitzbüheler Alps, a subrange of the Austrian Central Alps. This beautiful mountain range sits between the High Tauern and the Zillertal Alps. The Kitzbüheler Alps are known for their more rounded, grass-covered peaks compared to the rockier formations found elsewhere in the Alps, making them particularly suitable for skiing.
When does the ski season start and end in St. Johann in Tirol?
The ski season in St. Johann in Tirol typically runs from early December to early April, depending on snow conditions. Though 2023 experienced a warmer winter as noted by one Snomad user, the Austrian resort generally maintains good skiing throughout the season. Many visitors appreciate that even with varying conditions, the modern lift system and well-groomed pistes help extend the skiable season. The resort also offers strong lift efficiency (4.45/5) to maximise your time on the slopes.
Is St. Johann in Tirol good for beginners?

However, the resort does score well for beginners (4.00/5) despite this feedback.
