What Skiers Say About Sauze d'Oulx

Sauze d'Oulx attracts mainly intermediate to advanced skiers who value affordability and access to the wider Via Lattea ski area. Reviewers consistently praise the reasonable prices for food, drink, and lift passes, alongside the friendly atmosphere and quality Italian restaurants. The lift infrastructure is frequently criticised as old and slow, with many noting that connections to neighbouring resorts close easily in high winds. Snow conditions are variable, with lower runs often icy or slushy, though tree-lined runs are appreciated. The town itself is described as charming with good nightlife, though some find it quieter than expected.

The resort was absolutely perfect for families. It was so picturesque and we had a gorgeous time with friends. We were able to walk from the accommodation to the ski lift which was fantastic. A pretty good price in comparison to other resorts. I would definitely recommend!

We visited Sauze D'Oulx just after the COVID restrictions lifted and, given the circumstances, were pleasantly surprised with how much activity there was. The hotel we started at was lovely and the staff were very accommodating as I'm sure they will be at the majority of the hotels.
The main thing we were slightly disappointed by was the lack of runs. Having been to bigger resorts previously like Tignes, we were used to having a large variety of choice and doing different runs each day. However this wasn't the case in Sauze D'Oulx as you ended up doing the same runs often. However, even though it was a negative for me, it may be a positive for those less confident as you can become used to where you're going and know which runs are your favourite. Therefore for beginners/less confident, I wouldn't say that a smaller ski map is a absolute negative.
In all, I loved Sauze D'Oulx (however it is hard not to love any ski resort!!), but for me a slight lack in choice of runs.

Been coming to this resort since I was little and absolutely love it. Very good for beginners who are just starting out with many easy runs but there are still runs if you are looking to challenge yourself further.

Its hard to go wrong with the food and good value for money on the drinks!

Nice resort..lovely town lots of character..variety of bars..Nice for a stroll too..Clotes chairlift is too slow and there os a queue there in morning..if bus was free or more publicised would help..the links over from Sauze sadlyvaffected by wind so often closes and bit slow to get from one resort to neighbouring ones..there are enough slopes..but would benefit from more chairlifts or a fast gondola from top to bottom

Good all round resort, snow is great, well groomed runs, its part of the Milky Way so not short of runs, lifts are good and plenty, resort town is limited with some good bars to eat or drink, can get busy in the late evenings, not that cheap either, its about 1 hr transfer from the airport by car/taxi.

Sauze is a very popular party resort. Although it is still a very relaxed location to enjoy a family orientated holiday. The overall vibe from Sauze is far more pleasant than resorts in other countries with lift queues being short and people (usually) easy going. There are a good amount of pistes at Sauze but due to its lower elevation, powder is a novelty. This resort is best suited at beginner to intermediate skiers. Advanced skiers should explore further afield to neighbouring resorts (accessible by ski lifts) for more challenging terrain but be warned the neighbouring resorts are busier leaving you eager to return to sauze!

Great friendly resort, plenty of apres ski lots of places to eat and drink up the mountain, best bombardinos at bar clotes on the way back to the resort. Get the ski bus to sportinia neverca que and the quickest way up the mountain 10 for a weeks bus ticket as of 23/24 season. Lift from the bowel to the top is a slow old 2 person chair, there is also a drag lift that sometimes is operational. There is a blue and 2 black runs from the top, we always take the blacks the blue is a path for the first 200 or so meters and gets busy, you can get to the bottom on blue runs mostly a path (road) that winds itself down some flatter parts to it so you may end up walking.
Overall a great resort especially in March, if the sun is out the snow is normally ok till about 2-30 ish as it starts to go a bit slushy do the tree lined runs first thing they are never busy make the most of them while the snow is holding up. Then hed up to the top then you have options to where you want to go.

As quite a package resort, many of the accommodation options are through companies like crystal ski. The resort doesnt go that high so towards the end of the season it can get rocky and thin. With good snow there can be really good runs through trees and off-piste through trees. Local companies also offer guiding for proper off piste. General cost in resort is quite reasonable for a ski resort, with a lift pass allowing you the whole of the via lattea ski area

One of the best value for money resorts in the alps. Lift passes are roughly 35 a day compared to around 55 in most French resorts. There are 3 excellent long runs from the top of Sauze winding through the trees. I could ski them all day and not get bored. Alternatively if youre after a trek you can ski across to Montgenevre and back in a day (quite lifty in the middle but worth it for a day out) Ive never had to queue too long for a lift although Im sure at peak times it can get busier. The majority of lifts are fast 4 and 6 man chairs, although there is one abysmally slow 2 man that you have to endure if youre planning to head further afield. The apres is excellent, the food is excellent. I highly recommend this resort.

A beautiful resort that is so friendly and relaxed. Its a short transfer from the airport. We had beautiful weather and snow. The food in the village was really good and on the slopes it was beautiful food and really cheap! Everyone is so friendly. Would really recommend it especially as a family friendly resort.

We have skiied in Sauze twice - once as a family with 3 teenage kids, and once with a large group of families. The resort is fun, cost effective, and has something for everyone. Scope to ski further afield to Sestriere so plenty to do. Good range of cheap accommodation - quite variable in quality. One hotel we stayed at was incredible value for money (Hotel Splendid) with half board and sauna/pool which was a welcome bonus. Not a fancy hotel decor wise but very friendly with big open bar areas to relax in. Great for kids - pool table and space to run around. Only big issue with Sauze is the horrendous final run back into the resort at the end of the day - which every day was either icy or slush and littered with people struggling to get down!

Visited soon after Covid so may not have been the ideal time to go. Ski instruction for the children was excellent and I enjoyed a lesson too. Great teaching.
Only quite a small resort and was very busy at the main central ski lift. With long waits.
The variety of slopes were less as only a small resort. However there were a couple of lovely red runs which were nice and wide.
Access to the mountain was a trek up through the village and then two chair lifts or a bus ride and single lift straight to the ski school.
Nice atmosphere at the resort though and plenty of lively bars and restaurants.
