What Skiers Say About Pila

Pila attracts predominantly beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, including many families and school groups. Users consistently mention well-groomed, wide pistes that are notably quiet during weekdays, with queues mainly appearing at weekends when locals from Aosta and surrounding cities arrive. The resort's north-facing aspect and altitude help it hold snow well. Most reviewers highlight excellent value compared to French and Swiss resorts, particularly for food, drink, and lift passes. The main recurring criticisms are the limited après-ski and nightlife, small overall ski area that advanced skiers can cover quickly, and minimal village amenities unless staying in Aosta town below.

Perfect piste skiing, with an excellent progression for all kinds of skiing. Enough for skiers of all abilities, from nursery slopes, steep black runs, off piste and purpose built ski mountaineering trails. Loads of on slope options for food, and food and drink is way cheaper than nearby Swiss and French resorts. Expect great views of the neighbouring Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, and grand Paradiso. Go mid week to avoid the crowds, its a local resort for Milan, Turin and Aosta, so it gets pretty busy on good weekends.

Nice little area, can get busy at weekends and holidays and there's a bit of a bottle neck part way back to the gondola. A few nice little bars on the slopes and can walk over to the town of Aosta after which has some nice little restaurants and interesting museums/ Roman history.

Beautiful area with a splendid view on the high alpine region between southern Switzerland and the Aosta region. Great parking in Aosta next to the freeway, taking you up to Pila situated at 1900 m altitude. The terrain is wide open with some forestry further down, and as it is predominantly north facing, receiving plenty of snow. The village is not very lively, and not of interest for "Après ski". It's all about skiing.

Lovely small resort for most levels of skiing. Excellent lift system, which interconnects superbly well. Well groomed pistes and, almost without exception, staff everywhere were wonderful. Restaurants and bars sensibly priced.

The downside is that there's nothing to do when you're not skiing, unless you choose an hotel with pool etc. There are virtually no shops - not even a mini market or pharmacy.

However, the gondola lift takes you to Aosta Town in 20 minutes, with a 10 minute walk into the centre of this fabulous town. The lift does, however, closer at 5pm, so is restrictive if you want a full day's skiing as well as a visit to town.

Overall, I would give 5 stars for the skiing, but only two to three for the resort. Very good value for money, though

It's not my wording but "Pila is the Alps beat kept secret "The piste profile at Pila does favour the intermediate to advanced skier/snow boarder as the 2 blue to 15 red and 5 Black runs suggests. The use of the natural topography makes for fun runs of decent length and tree lines to add interest. The resort generally faces NE so hangs on to snow pretty well compared to other resorts even when temperatures rise. Highest runs start at 2770 metres.

Due to other high profile resorts in the Aosta Valley Pila remains quiet during weekdays so lift queues can be almost non-existant.; which helps for those wanting to max out their daily run count.

The village and resident population is small so the nightlife is near non existent and of the 4-6 restaurants only half of these are open 7 days. There are zero nightclubs or late bars which is a
bonus for me but maybe a negative for you.

The resort is being developed so will change and become busier; but as it is now it's a great destination for experienced riders wanting to focus on their riding rather than the apres- ski.

In resort accommodation is fairly limited but generally good value.

I'll be back next year.

Stayed in Aosta and caught the telecabine up every morning

Easy, free parking with walk on access to the lift

The warm up beginner blue runs were fantastic, especially Blue 15

Fantastic grooming and uncrowded pistes all day

Great transitions from blue runs to red runs with plenty of easily accessible off-piste terrain beside the groomed pistes

Off piste areas off the Grimondet chair were perfect for aspiring powder skiers

Excellent terrain off the Couis 2 chair both on and off piste

Great food at Hermitage restaurant on mountain

Last run of the day was the magnificent red Du Bois piste (2) to red Plan Praz piste (26) where we caught the telecabine back to Aosta

Staying in the town made for a very different ski holiday experience

Had the opportunity to enjoy the evening passeggiata through the streets and side streets before enjoying apertivo at La Vineria, Eden Bistrot, the gin bar Baretto Di Sant'Orso Gintoneria e bottiglieria

First time back skiing after many years and this was the perfect place to get back on skis! The variety of ability slops is perfect, the mapping makes it so easy to navigate. A great number of cafes/bars on the slopes perfect for a mid ski snack and energy boost before hitting the slopes again. Extremely kind staff who are happy to help and guide whenever you need and very reasonably priced. Looking forward to returning again next winter!!

Ive visited Pila twice for family ski holidays and, honestly, the value you get for what you pay is incredible. A 5 day lift pass was around 190 and the gondola ride up to the resort itself was incredibly efficient.

You have an abundance of options from the moment you get off the gondola to ease your way into the day with some steady blues and easy reds or you can go straight up to the tighter black runs without having to wait in queues.

The pistes are groomed fantastically and theres always the option of taking the off-piste route (which I enjoyed A LOT). There are plenty of cafe/bars on the slopes that are so well priced.

Ski and equipment hire is as easy as it comes and so well priced, I doubt there are many places that can be beaten on value.

Aosta itself is a beautiful town, rich in beautiful architecture and packed with places to enjoy a drink or go out for food (Bataclan in Aosta is an absolute MUST).

We got around on public transport that was incredibly efficient and cheaper than any other way of getting a round. We even got the train from Turin to Aosta (a 2 hour+ train journey) for about 15 each and the trains were so clean and great value.

Already looking at going again when the time comes!

Great resort, easy to reach by car from London (UK). A good middle-size resort, amazing for families with its wide trails and good prices. Food is amazing, ski lessons and rentals are very economical, beautiful views. You can stay in Aosta and take the gondola up!
