What Skiers Say About Pila

Pila attracts predominantly beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, including many families and school groups. Users consistently mention well-groomed, wide pistes that are notably quiet during weekdays, with queues mainly appearing at weekends when locals from Aosta and surrounding cities arrive. The resort's north-facing aspect and altitude help it hold snow well. Most reviewers highlight excellent value compared to French and Swiss resorts, particularly for food, drink, and lift passes. The main recurring criticisms are the limited après-ski and nightlife, small overall ski area that advanced skiers can cover quickly, and minimal village amenities unless staying in Aosta town below.

Small resort but great for a group of 40 school pupils. The ski school (evolution) was by far the best I have seen in my many ski trips. They kept the kids safe and injury free whilst ensuring that they progressed well. Well groomed slopes and no queues for lifts. No button lifts, thankfully.

This place is a hidden gem. Its located only an hour from Turin making it so simple to get to and a simple drive on the motorway.
You can stay either in resort which makes things more limited or in the town of Pila in the valley. Gorgeous valley town very typically Italian with gorgeous and wonderful restaurants and bars and loads of shops it really is a surprise. Hotels are good value and as always skiing in Italy is reasonable and value for money.
The slopes are a 15min ride up the mountain and the lifts are easy to get up and into the slopes which are well looked after and great fun to come down even better for a learner like me who could progress to the reds with ease.
Mega place, great value and just the right Italian charm!

Pila is a very quiet, family centred resort that has offers a great experience for beginners and intermediate skiers, while also providing some challenge for advanced skiers. The ski area is fairly substantial, although only approximately 2/3 of the runs were open during my visit, with all black runs closed. The runs themselves are mostly very wide with lots of trees, making them a picturesque and gentle ski. There are ample opportunities to go to the top of the mountain which results in incredible views of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, while the ski down from these is also really enjoyable, with some of the best reds in the resort. There are several good restaurants on the mountain too, which provide a range of genuine Italian food and drink. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely return.

Pila is a beautiful setting with stunning views of both Mont Blanc and Matterhorn. Accessed via a gondola from Aosta town or via a 17km winding mountain road.(2hrs transfer from Turin). Accommodation is pretty basic however the hotels are cosy and mostly ski in ski out. The food has always been good and plentiful. Pistes I found were wonderfully groomed every night and by day slopes were very quiet midweek and most enjoyable. Limited black runs exist, reds are fantastic with some tree lined routes. Blues do exist however not my bag. All routes lead back to the resort centre so its a very compact resort thats easy to navigate. No links to other resorts albeit the ski pass allows usage at other Aosta resorts for a day on 6day pass I believe

Weve done a few school ski trips here and I was really surprised how good this resort is. But if a bottleneck getting up there as theres only really the one gondola option to get you up from Aosta in the valley. Once you are actually up in Pila the skiing is very good, big variety of pistes, lots of nice, quiet runs over the far side. Surprisingly big area. Lots of great mountain cafes and restaurants and really good prices. I love that you dont get ripped off for a coffee in Italy and last time I was in Pima it was 2 euros for a coffee. The Yeti Bar at the middle station has real character too.

Biggest drawback is the small amount of ski in / ski out accomodation. Otherwise great place to ski with decent food options etc.

I went here for my first or second skiing experience. It was a good few years ago but the ski school I distinctly remember was brilliant. And the accommodation top notch despite being seemingly a small resort from what I remember.

Great family friendly location. The place they got me confident on skis

Worthwhile a visit for beginner slopes and early development for sure

And who doesnt love Italian food!

We stayed in Aosta and caught the cable car on a daily basis. It was a ten minute walk and a 20 minute cable car ride., not for everyone but we loved it .

The number of runs is limited, but they are very well groomed and a lot of fun.
The restaurants are varied, good value and the food is pretty good apart from the cabbage stew.

It is easy to access other resorts in the area. We used buses which, were usually reliable
but a car would be an advantage.

We are going back this year which says a lot.

A not so hidden, hidden gem in the aosta valley, with direct lift access from the city of aosta it's self. Much much quieter than all the big name resorts near by, fresh tracks can be found days after the last snowfall! Very family friendly with a chill vibe, and some excellent freeride terrain for those who want to seek it out.

In February 2023, I had a fantastic time skiing in Pila, Aosta Valley. The resort has an excellent combination of terrain, ideal for intermediates with lots of wide, cruisy runs, and some challenging slopes for advanced skiers. The snow was brilliant, with fresh powder after a number of days of snowfall, and the weather was crisp and sunny.

Pros:

Stunning Views: Panoramic vistas of Mont Blanc elevate the entire experience.
Great for Intermediates: The resort caters well for intermediate skiers with a good mix of blue and red runs.
Easy Access: The cable car from Aosta is quick and offers breathtaking valley views.

Cons:

Limited Advanced Terrain: Advanced skiers might find the slopes a bit lacking in challenge.
Quiet Après-Ski: The après-ski scene is fairly low-key, not ideal for those looking for lively nightlife.
Lift System: While efficient, some lifts are a bit slower and could benefit from modernization.
Tips:

Early Start: Arrive early, especially on weekdays, to enjoy quieter slopes.
Snowboarders: The snowpark is well-maintained and fun for those looking to challenge themselves.

Pila is a hidden gem. Has the altitude for reliable snow. Is great for families. Food... it's Italy... it's amazing! It's a quiet resort which is great for beginner to intermediates. Advanced might find they've completed the resort after a few days, but even then it's got some great runs worth sessioning to find the best side hits and spots of powder off the sides. Not much apres but that's fine for my group at age 40ish. Pila has an amazing charm to it. Lots of locally family owned hotels.

An excellent resort to learn how to ski / snowboard. A great set of slopes of varying difficulty to take you from beginner to advanced in no time. Fantastic English language ski schools, and enough slopes to keep you excited for the whole week. Good food in the local area, and affordable accommodation and supermarkets. Very family friendly and not particularly busy.

Have been skiing in Pila since I was 5 years old. Super family friendly resort with plenty of skiing if you know where to go. Perfect for a long weekend.
New lift going in next year which will make the whole resort run more efficiently.
Food and drink on the mountain and resort are super tasty and very good value for money.
I highly recommend Pila
