What Skiers Say About Pila
Pila attracts predominantly beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, including many families and school groups. Users consistently mention well-groomed, wide pistes that are notably quiet during weekdays, with queues mainly appearing at weekends when locals from Aosta and surrounding cities arrive. The resort's north-facing aspect and altitude help it hold snow well. Most reviewers highlight excellent value compared to French and Swiss resorts, particularly for food, drink, and lift passes. The main recurring criticisms are the limited après-ski and nightlife, small overall ski area that advanced skiers can cover quickly, and minimal village amenities unless staying in Aosta town below.

Apres is very limited but as a large group we socialised within our hotel communal areas. This year Pilas new gondola opened and a number of new mountain restaurants see there first season. A great resort.
The new gondola taking you to The Star at the highest point of the resort in a matter of minutes is excellent for those seeking first lift thrills as well as non skiers and skiers alike looking for lunch with great views and Instagram worthy snaps.
We are lucky enough to have two ski trips per year and despite trying a different resort for one of those trips each year we always come back to Pila for the other trip, we've yet to find another resort that gives us the same wonderful experience for the cost paid.
We've done multiple Christmas, New Year and March weeks and always found the slopes quieter than any French resorts even at peak weeks, and although its purpose built and doesn't have the charm of Austria the stunning views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn give it's own charm. It's only downside for some visitors would be the lack of later evening Après. The slope side bars mostly close soon after the lifts / slopes do and leave just a few restaurants in the village, all wonderful though. We always stay in one of the small family owned hotels which offer HB so getting to know your fellow guests over the week adds to the experience. Some people prefer to stay in the Roman City of Aosta at the bottom of the mountain which is just a short 20 min ride up in a gondola each morning, there you have an abundance of bars and restaurants and its definitely worth a trip down from Pila if you choose a non ski day / afternoon. The old city walls, church and cathedral are worth the trip down.
Good value and a nice quiet little resort. Would happily return
