What Skiers Say About Val Thorens
Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Facilities here are un matched, the lifts are amazing, piste's are well marked and groomed, plenty of mountain bars and coffee stops on the piste.
The beginner runs/greens are exactly that and perfect for 1st timers, quite a few reds and some challenging blacks.
A plethora of blue runs but it did seem that some of these blues were essentially red runs re labelled to ensure the resort had a fair number of each available. Still plenty of blues but some were certainly on the more challenging side.
For the apres ski it's fantastic, although be aware of the folie douce, if you aren't that confident skiing, good luck getting back from there.
I would never turn down the option to go VT, it's got everything.
Two out of three of our days were tough, with very heavy snow, no shelter and very few lifts or runs able to run. The apres ski in these conditions was almost non-existent. It created an incredible experience, but it did hinder our skiing and partying! (This was the risk we took, well aware it could happen)
The third day, after the storm passed, produced one of the best days ever! Stunning views, incredible snow and some amazingly well groomed runs. The reds on this day remained quiet when they finally opened, whilst the blue runs throughout our stay had been extremely busy, with lots of large lessons and beginners.
We love Three Valleys, and we will be back. Im not sure if we will stay in Val Thorens again though, although I feel like perhaps we need to give it another chance. Its a very weather dependant resort due to the exposure and height, so do bare that in mind if you have the luxury of booking with short notice.
The ski school was friendly, although the classes were large and sometimes slightly unorganised.
There were lots of choices for restaurants, après, and clubs. The price of food was reasonable (for skiing).
The atmosphere was great during events yet during the day you could find secluded slopes.
The only downside was that beginner slopes and rental shops were extremely busy in December.
Best ski resort!! Hands down!!
The only disappointment was the lack of black runs, as the only open ones were not pisted.
Overall, I really enjoyed the resort and would recommend.
