What Skiers Say About Val Thorens
Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

The apres is the best around and really good for partying however pretty expensive. But there is lots of places to go and eat or drink in the town.
The town has a really wide range of different priced accommodation so there is something for everyones budget. Also a short gondola ride from meribel which is also really nice.
Would highly recommend val thorens!
A wide range of runs for very level and fantastic apres options.
Many ski in/out options for accommodation.
You can always count on snow even when the rest of Europe is struggling.
Amazing range of runs in resort and outward to the 3 valleys.
Best resort in Europe
Ski school staff were great and helpful
The Apre ski was also fun
There seems to be the full range of accommodation and ratings. Im writing this review from the 3 Star Bel Horizon which is basic but clean and the staff are lovely. Right on the slope and so easy to nip into the hotel for more sunscreen or a gear change.
What impressed me most is the lift system. It is insane! Every type of lift and never queued for more than 2 minutes. In fact, on Saturday morning (today) we got straight onto the chairlift with no queue! Its a flight day so pistes were quieter.
Fast and easy access to Meribel and then onto Courchevel. Which I highly recommend! Had so much fun planning the route.
Apres Ski and shopping will not disappoint and there is a nice buzz to the resort. Loads of kids sledding in the resort centre so seems to be good for families.
Love it
- Incredible access to the most expansive resort in the world!
- ski-in, ski-out
Cons:
- Not great for families
- No good eating out options for vegans
Food and drink great, lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. Would
Recommend.
Good takeaway and food options in the town. Excellent spa facilities which I wish I used more than once. Many options for shops allowing you to self cater.
