What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

We stayed in a chalet with a few other strangers. The non stop wine included helped us all get along. One night we went to the frog bar after the usual wine and enjoyed some Guinness. The altitude and cold seemed to rid me off a hang over. I loved snowboarding on the long glacier runs.

Massive area with all types of slopes for beginner to advanced. Really cool park aswell.
The apres is the best around and really good for partying however pretty expensive. But there is lots of places to go and eat or drink in the town.
The town has a really wide range of different priced accommodation so there is something for everyones budget. Also a short gondola ride from meribel which is also really nice.
Would highly recommend val thorens!

Big resort and high up. Great snow over a long season but can have some rough weather days as a result. Been caught out high up in some severe weather before which can be a challenge. Has acres to the three valleys so with a full lift pass the skiing area is huge. If you get a good weather day a run all the way over to Corchevel for lunch and back is great. Can be busy in the mornings and afternoon getting in and out of resort. The resort isnt the prettiest, lots of concrete but is big and has lots of options for accommodation/food/bars etc. It has a bowling alley to do lots for youngsters to do off piste. Its not cheap but still the best value for the three valleys. Would recommend over all.

Best ski resort Ive ever been. Never got bored of the slopes and Im dying to go again. The accommodation was amazing. Cosy provided a nice kitchenette. The slopes are plentiful, long and kept extremely well. The village has great bars and restaurants to spend your evenings. Never a dull day.

Val Thorens offers snow-sure skiing at the highest altitude you can get!

There seems to be the full range of accommodation and ratings. Im writing this review from the 3 Star Bel Horizon which is basic but clean and the staff are lovely. Right on the slope and so easy to nip into the hotel for more sunscreen or a gear change.

What impressed me most is the lift system. It is insane! Every type of lift and never queued for more than 2 minutes. In fact, on Saturday morning (today) we got straight onto the chairlift with no queue! Its a flight day so pistes were quieter.

Fast and easy access to Meribel and then onto Courchevel. Which I highly recommend! Had so much fun planning the route.

Apres Ski and shopping will not disappoint and there is a nice buzz to the resort. Loads of kids sledding in the resort centre so seems to be good for families.

A great resort no matter if with friends or with the family. The three valleys has it all and with Val Thorens being so high I am unsure why youd stay at the lower resorts.

Best for young people and students who are avid skiers as there is the biggest skiable terrain in Europe as well as the best (in my opinion) après ski, with folie douce, bar 360 and Fahrenheit 7 as well as many nightlife options in the evening.

Must get the 3 valleys pass to make the most of the trip. Apres ski is amazing either the famous follie duex or the better in my opinion bar 360. Can ski back from them both after the lifts have closed for some fun laughing at Jerry's.
Good takeaway and food options in the town. Excellent spa facilities which I wish I used more than once. Many options for shops allowing you to self cater.
