What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Great resort, tobogganing was so fun as was ziplining. On powder days it was amazing, but even on non-powder days the skiing was still excellent. Apres was fantastic (home of Foulie Douce and 360). Expensive and long transfer time though. Also busy. Only 2 green runs for my beginner girlfriend. Great connections over to 3 Vals

Was in Val Tho this winter and loved the way the slopes run right through the village centre. It was a 2-minute walk from my apartment to the slopes. This is intermediate paradise - not so many black slopes but you can carve to your heart's delight all day. A shame the Cime Caron was closed when I went, but the view across to Orelle from the other summit was still very impressive. Didn't even have to go to the rest of the Three Valleys because Val Thorens' ski area kept me well busy for two days.

+Great for intermediate skiers
+La Folie Douce
+Ski-in, ski-out
-Not so many choices for expert skiers
-Cime Caron was closed

Superbly set up resort, with a huge amount of skiing to be done. Late in the season it holds snow well as its so high. watch it for rocks though as the pistes were pretty thin on snow when we went. Not much in the way of tree skiing unless you go to Merribel. But that isn't a major issue. Great vibes, but very expensive - as you might expect.

One of the best Apres skis Ive ever seen. I do wish they had more tree runs and off the path runs. Great lifts though and great cost for what you get and an awesome resort.

Went to VT the first time I ever skied and havent been to a better resort yet skiing wise. Easy access to other areas but also really good slopes in VT itself.

The ski school was great. Picked it up really quickly so they adapted it which meant it wasnt boring at all or underwhelming.

Apres is the best in VT I would say and the views are unparalleled in my (somewhat limited) experience so far.

Probably the best skiing Ive had because of number of pistes and distance you can cover between the other resorts. What I particularly like is that its so high its like a giant snow bowl, being above the tree line, you can see for miles, most of the buildings are quite modern, so its not for those looking for cute chalets and snowy pine trees to ski through. One of the only resorts Id love to go back to. Best for guaranteed spring skiing.

It is a fantastic ski resort that suits all levels of skiing, snowboarding and other snow sports. The ski shops are professional and have good levels of facilities and stock to rent and buy. The hotels are amazing but apartments are very small, expensive and can be dated and often lack everyday cooking facilities. There are lots of activities for all groups from young families, university trips to solo travel. Seasonaires get great benefits and have lots of fun. There are lots of varying levels of restaurants and food places both up the mountain and in resort. The weather changes so fast so be prepared for anything! The apres is amazing both up the mountain and in resort with lots of different people coming and going from resort all the time there is something for everyone. The tourist office is located in the centre and full of information with the brand new sports centre open and ready with unbelievable facilities. During peak weeks there are lots of varying activities depending on the time of year as well as a regional market twice a week in the centre. The village is car free so being good shoes to walk around resort in after skiing !!!

Great overall resort. Special mention for the world class après socials here at club 360 (better) and folie (more family friendly) better views from here though. Really recommend for a friends holiday and the slopes cater to all levels of skier/snowboarder. I shall be back!

Val Thorens ski resort offers an incredible experience for skiing, with breathtaking views and well-maintained slopes that cater to all skill levels. However, our visit coincided with some truly unfortunate weather conditions; heavy snowfall meant that many après-ski venues were closed, limiting our ability to unwind and enjoy the local nightlife.

Despite the challenging weather, the resort itself is fantastic. The slopes were in great condition. The ski lifts are efficient, no much wait times and allowing us to make the most of our time on the mountain.

If you're planning a trip to Val Thorens, be prepared for the possibility of unpredictable weather. While our experience with après-ski was dampened, the skiing itself was still a highlight. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a thrilling ski vacation, just be sure to check the weather forecast before you go!

Love love love Val Thorens. Obviously great access for Les 3 Vallées, lots of options for affordable ski in/out accommodation and suitable for all skiing levels due to the vast amount of slopes! Great for Apres ski also, has a Folie Douce on the slopes and great bars in the town for the evening! I went in a group of 8 and we all loved ot, can't wait to return

Val Thorens is great for all skiing abilities, with a range of green and blue runs available for beginners, and the option of the three valley lift pass for intermediate/advanced skiers to explore the connecting areas of Maribel and Courchevel. The skiing conditions are great, there is an extensive lift network, and a variety of different types from steep, narrow sections, to windy, shallow tree runs. The food and drink options in resort are sufficient, ranging from a small supermarket to luxury dining experiences. With the three valleys pass there is also the enjoyable option to eat out for lunch in other ski towns. Accommodation options are varied, and mostly nearby to the slopes. Overall this ski area can be more expensive than others.

It has a wide variety of shops and restaurants in the village, and has some nightclubs which are open till late. Val Thorens is a great resort as its connected to the 3 vallies region and so there is so much to ski whole you're here. Val Thrones off the slopes also has so much going on with lots of bars and restaurants and lots of activities around christmas and new year. Good for first timers and experienced skiers alike.

Pretty much something for most skiers certainly brilliant for beginner and intermediate. Can be very busy but has a real buzz. Expensive but skiing in France is and there are benefits. Easy to get to, access to a wide range of facilities. Can connect to hundreds of kilometres of pistes across three valleys so you can do something different every day!
