What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

love the high clean air, the dry cold snow

val thorens isnt a pretty village but the main bowl is stunning and the easy availability of seriou altitude gives you lots of options when conditions are marginal elsewhere

climate facts are facts - go high or go home!

Fantastic resort for those looking to get a lot of skiing or boarding in. Good variety of runs. Very impressive lift access. Highly recommend going later in the season when the sun is shining but the snow is still decent. The only real negative is a distinct lack of tree runs and scenery, but as expected given the altitude.

Have been to Val Thorens 6/7 times but always in January. In January you do get university trips there so it can get busy but it does mean the Apres is very lively! Its a great resort to learn if you are a beginner and having the three valleys option is really good if you are advanced so you can do some hard miles !

Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe so always a good choice of destination for a ski holiday in these days of uncertain winter conditions. The 3 valleys area is vast and there is more than enough varied terrain to satisfy skiers of moderate to good ability for a week's ski holiday. A few insights from the perspective of a long term visitor: the southern area of Orelle tends to benefit from the sunniest and warmest conditions and also is one of the least busy ski areas due to its distance from most other places in les trois vallees; lift queues in Meribel can be challenging and so it would be advisable not to ski into Meribel during busy periods; accommodation in Les Menuires, a short distance from Val Thorens, is both plentiful and relatively affordable with the only downside that it's purpose built and lacking a little in charm.

Went with a group of friends- great resort. The Three Valleys lift pass is more than enough and the options for food on the mountain are brilliant. Apres is amazing and the folice douce cannot be missed. If you go outside of school holidays not only will it be considerably more cost efficient the slopes will practically be empty.

Beginning of Dec(start of season) most runs were open. Little off piste due to lack of snow fall but runs are nice and maintained. Didnt seem to busy at this time of year but then less snow and the lift up and over the top wasn't running imto the other valleys so id keep this in mind.

Very good resort for skiing throughout the season due to its high altitude. The snow has always been great when Ive been there and the variety of both piste and off-piste skiing is unmatched. The whole 3 valleys area is huge so theres plenty of slopes to ski and means that nothing ever gets too busy (apart from the last run down to resort of course). The lifts are fast and efficient I queue less here than in any other area Ive skied in. Its a great ski resort for all abilities too! Would thoroughly recommend!

Been skiing in Val Thorens for about 15 years now and never wanted to leave!! The amount of ski area is comparable to nowhere else in Europe and the range is amazing, and as its so high the snow is usually very good. We have stayed in a range of hotels and apartments which have all been close to town and never more than 5 minutes from the slopes. Parking has never been an issue as this is well catered for do not leave your car on the street or it WILL be towed! Après ski is brilliant and theres a range of bars a in town and also on the mountain. If youre looking for tree skiing however, VT is not for you :)

Val Thorens is honestly such a fun place, especially if youre going with a uni group or a big crowd. When I went, it was such a great timethe atmosphere is just on another level. The skiing is amazing, with loads of runs and stunning views, but what really made it for me was the après-ski. The bars are buzzing, the music is spot-on, and the clubs are always lively. Its definitely not the cheapest place, thoughI felt like I was constantly shelling out for drinks and food. Still, the overall vibe and the memories made it totally worth it. Its one of those places where you just soak in the energy and have an unforgettable time. If youre heading to Val Thorens, a few things Id recommendfirst, be ready for it to be pricey. Drinks, food, everything adds up, so it helps if you bring some snacks or easy meals to save a bit. For après-ski, you cant skip La Folie Douce; its wild, and the energy there is unbeatable. Malaysia is another spot to check outmassive and perfect for late nights. Oh, and definitely explore the slopes; the variety is insane, and the views are unreal. Just pace yourselfits tempting to go all out every night, but youll want energy to enjoy the skiing too!

Absolutely beautiful resort, and must be completed with the 3 valleys pass, giving access to the nearby resorts. For a calm and quiet ski day, definitely worth going over to Orelle.

The hotels are beautiful and there are plenty of ski rental places nearby to help with ski worries.

Beers are a little on the expensive side and especially when at Après such as Folie Douce this is seen.

Great places to eat out and quite a few establishments to visit for a good night out.

Amazing skiing with a huge offering for every ability of skier/snowboarder. Facilities are unreal with great coaching available, great places to eat and drink - plus the amazing Apres ski.

Snow is there for the whole season reliably and the slopes are extremely well maintained.

The only negative is that its an expensive resort, however if youre after a super family friendly, amazing skiing, unmatched atmosphere ski resort, Val T is the place.

One of my favourite and I will be back!
