What Skiers Say About Tignes
Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Went mid December so snow was thin and limited. Very icy in the lower sections especially in the tree lined runs. As a result snow cannons on near constantly which was slightly annoying.
Most challenging runs closed due to conditions and limited in number anyway. Otherwise the high up, especially glacier skiing was largely very nice. Loads of nice wide cruisy blues for some good carving and a selection of really nice runs.
Limited off piste yet what we did or saw was largely sketchy due to limited snow cover and rocky terrain. Im sure there is better stuff out there for the more adventurous and definitely later in the season.
The town itself is ok with a nice range of bars and restaurants but limited options for on piste après of any decent quality save folie and cocos. Accommodation was decent enough.
Overall not bad at all. Any downsides due to time of year and conditions.
The food options were good, although the town isnt huge, there was a variety of choice along with a couple of nice bars to go in and some nightlife if thats your thing.
Lots of places to rent boards with loads of options available. Very helpful and can change and try different boards if you want to.
Our accommodation in Tignes was good, clean and easy. Not the comfiest though (but this is only one spot)
You can ski within Tignes and Val Disere here so there is lots of mountain range to cover from greens to blacks. Lots of nice places along the way to stop for a hot chocolate too for when you want a break. The lifts are so easy to navigate and very efficient.
I would visit Tignes again. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
Higher altitude means that there's not many trees runs, but the few there are really good.
The aprés is some of the best around. Most places offer a happy hour providing cheaper drinks in the early evening. There's a good range of pubs and clubs to cater for everyone
Accomodations are plentiful ranging from 5 star hotels and luxury chalets to self catered apartments to suit all budgets.
Home to the steepest and longest run in Europe which is a lot of fun.
Has a folie douce which is great for apres, there are more places for apres but they're quite spread out.
