What Skiers Say About Tignes
Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

We love it so much, you are always guaranteed good snow, epic apres and good culture!
Began as a complete ski novice but through 2 hours teaching everyday I ended the week doing my first couple of black runs fairly confidently, the teachers were great even with slightly larger groups.
The terrain and snow are excellent.
The views from the mountains are breathtaking as well.
We were there in February which is a busier season but rarely did we wait more than 5 minutes to go up a ski lift due to the sheer number and variety of slopes to go down.
The glacier is breathtaking as well.
Food is on the slightly pricier side but not extortionate for a ski resort and there are plenty of supermarkets to get food to eat out.
Apres ski at folie deux and other bars around tignes was amazing
Would definitely go again :)
The ski area is huge and snow is reliable being so high. We went in April and loved the combination of solid snow and warmer sun. Afternoons got a little slushy later on, but the pay off was getting able to ride in simple gear like hoodies (or even tees on occasion).
VC can get a little loud in the evening due to some of the bars. The advantage is how close to all the main chairs and lifts you are. Also, the only grocery shops (Local Sherpa) are eye-wateringly expensive. Food in restaurants is standard for the mountains. You can grab a well priced and tasty burger type meal from the Kiosk near the funicular.
So good we are returning this year.
Key thing is link to Val d'Isere which means plenty to do, especially as Tignes is mainly one big bowl, which means it doesn't feel like you're doing much genuine exploring if you just stay in the Tignes section of the Espace Killy area.
But pistes are in excellent condition (I went in 2nd week of season, December) and towns are nice.
Aside from the skiing, its boasts a decent apres scene (maybe not quite as good as its neighbouring Val disere, but still great!)
Theres also a few great restaurants.
Overall, I love Tignes- have been back over multiple years and its one of my favourite French resorts. 100% would recommend!
The shop near our apartments was good, but as with everything in resort, prices werent cheap. The majority of the resorts bars and restaurants were a 10-15 minute walk away in Val claret centre, but this wasnt too much of an issue. Selection was good for a range of budgets and choices.
The skiing in Tignes was exceptional. Piste conditions were fantastic, variety of terrain was great and you could ski a whole day and not ski the same run twice if you ventured over into Val Disere as well.
Overall, Tignes is great, on the expensive side but you do get some fantastic skiing for your money.
Great location with easy access to ski lifts.
Ski runs accommodate to all levels of ability.
