What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Great resort with lots of accommodation in Val Claret and Le Lac. Lifts are generally not too busy with minima queues in the morning.
Great apres at Follie and even better apres at CocoRicos. An abundance of restaurants and bar exist too with good happy hour deals.

If you’re after high quality skiing and variety of runs, Tignes is amazing. Skiing over to Val d’Isère is very doable and there are some amazing runs. However, the best runs (in my opinion) are centred around Tignes and Val Claret. The Glacier run is the cherry on top; beautiful.

Incredible resort with so many activities for the whole family from rock climbing to an indoor spa and pool. The area is extremely well connected with free resort shuttle and public transport. Large skiable area on their biggest pass, but also a smaller more budget friendly area that covers the needs of both beginners and more advanced skiers/boarders. Food and entertainment is easy to find but is slightly more expensive than other mountains local to Tignes. Overall a good choice for a week away.

Tignes is a really fun resort made for everyone the skiing is always good having been in December aswell as much later on the season with there always being snow you don’t have to worry about not being able to ski. The skiing area is also brilliant with the option to also go over to val d’Isère. Tignes also has one of the best apres set ups with cocoricos and a folie douce.

I stayed at Tignes UCPA in mid April 2024 and had a blast. There was soooo much snow and we were blessed with heavy snow fall midweek too.

If you're looking for snowboarding lessons, hit up Joey at evolution 2. Honestly the best teacher you could ask for. He really helped me push myself and elevate my riding.

Great resort when combined with Val d’isere. Loads of options for advanced skiers with loads of off piste if the snow is good. Less options for beginners with relatively tricky runs into the villages.

Stayed in Tignes 13-20 Dec 25 with my 11 year old son for the second year running. Both proficient skiers, we ski'd most of the Tignes / Val D'isere resorts, on and off-piste. Piste conditions were great for the time if year. Off-piste was struggling due to lack of recent snowfall and much of the soft snow compacted by skiers and boarders.

The resort itself offers a huge variety of ski runs for all abilities and from past experience, some of the best and most varied off-piste potential. Some of our favourite runs were the Glacier Grande Motte red run into Val Claret (and the blue 'Genepy' run for a more mellow experience), from the Aiguille Percee all the way down to Le Brevieres, and over in Val D'Isere we enjoyed off-piste sections near the Glacier Du Pisaillas, just off the Cascade chair lift and of course, the Le Face De Bellevarde black run into the village.

Aside from the obvious, the resort also offers many other activities from sledging and snowmobiling, to indoor sports and even ice diving in Le Lac.

As for Apres, there's plenty for all ages. Id recommend Kodo in Tignes - a pan Asian restaurant which is delicious! For lunch, check out Le Garage in Val D'Isere and La Rosee Blanche in La Daille.

Try to split your ski's with others when leaving them outside, especially at Apres. This reduces the risk of them being taken which unfortunately dies happen quite often.

It's a fantastic resort with so much on offer.

Loved tignes!! Had the full pass for tignes and val disere but stayed in tignes. It had le bollin bar which was super fun apres then you ski down to cocos and it’s so fun! Didn’t explore le lac fully but val claret actually extends to a lot more runs than initially thought. Probably for best snow - val disere would have to be the winner but tignes was still interesting to explore!

Get to the lifts early to get onto the lovely groomed slopes. This resort started my love of a mogul run. Lovely people and atmosphere all round. Some great accommodation - including spas. One member of the group didn’t ski and enjoyed their stay in the town.

This resort was fantastic, a huge variety of slopes and amazing snow conditions for April. It is worth noting that the runs at this resort feel a little trickier and more technical than smaller resorts I have visited. The Apres is great and lively and the slopes aren’t too busy. Lift lines also weren’t long despite my visit being in a school holiday. However it is more expensive than other resorts I’ve visited, so keep that in mind.

Tignes is SO FUN! There is such a big ski area for all different levels. The parks are meant to be pretty fun but only one was built when I went, however there was a fun jumps built. Cocos is a super fun apres down in Val Claret. Rangas is a bar in Val Claret run by lovely people, then after that you can hit up Blue Girl which is open nearly all night. Tignes has a great night life and a great ski area - including Val D! Can’t recommend enough for advanced and beginner skiers and boarder. And for late night snacks - SOS Pizza is amazing!

Visited Tignes le lac / Val D isere beginning 0f Dec 25 with Snowheads staying at Le Taos in Le Lac. Conditions for beginning of season excellent, pistes well groomed with enough coverage for 1 days off piste guiding with Tignes base Guide Free Flow Floss which was excellent. Quiet week on the pistes but good food and apres available.

A good variety as an intermediate, but with beginners in the group, so planning your route around the mountain can be quite important, as whilst some areas are very quiet and you have good space, other areas are quite high traffic. Good value accommodation and restaurant options in the villages, more limited up the mountain, but you are never far from the bottom

Large area that links with Val D'Isere. We got a huge massive 5 foot snowfall when there that closed the mountain and put the village in lockdown for part of the day. It was epic and totally refreshed the resort for the next couple of days. The lift tickets were a bit more costly than other French resorts, but it was not over crowded and with the exception of first thing in the morning we were straight on most lifts. Lots of good blue runs and a modern lift system, which is easier for snowboarders to use.
