What Skiers Say About Tignes
Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

What made the trip special, though, was how easy it was to enjoy as a family. Everything is close together, lifts are efficient, and getting around with different ability levels was surprisingly stress-free. While I was off hunting for steeper lines and natural side hits, the rest of my family had plenty of cruisy blues and scenic runs to enjoy. We’d meet up for lunch on the mountain or roll back into the village together in the afternoon, tired but happy. The resort feels purpose-built, which isn’t the most “chocolate-box Alpine village” experience, but it does mean convenience wins every time — especially with kids.
Off the slopes, Tignes felt lively without being overwhelming. December had a great buzz: festive, cosy, and energetic, but not full-on party mode. Evenings were spent sharing food, swapping stories about falls and victories, and watching the snow fall outside our apartment window. All in all, Tignes gave me exactly what I want as a snowboarder — reliable snow, varied terrain, and minimal hassle — while still being a place where my whole family genuinely had a great time. It’s the kind of resort you leave already thinking about when you might come back.

I mean..... is this a party or a sports holiday? - both I guess!
We try make it as cheap as possible so we get more trips in, we cook in most of the time (food shop before you go up the mountain!)
The spa in le lac is great after a days boarding and there’s loads to do in Tignespace too
Slopes for all abilities from beginner to advanced.
Great backcountry routes.
Lots of facilities in tignes - bars, swimming pool, restaurants, supermarkets, post office
Very enjoyable and would love to go back
Only issue is coming from the Val d'sere side, you may come across the Black Slope coming back into Val Claret, however this can be easily avoided!
