What Skiers Say About Tignes
Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Tignes Val Claret would be the best place to stay in my opinion as right next to the best slopes and can easily go into Val d’isere to make the most of the extensive Espace killy region
The skiing is great and expansive, the apres at both cocorico and folie are brilliant (especially cocorico) and the residential areas themselves are great for pubs, food and general vibes.
We got to ski into val D’Isere on our ski passes as well which was great, but unfortunately the area wasn’t fully open. I hope to go back to experience it all again and explore more.
Amazing apre life
Wide range of slopes (combined with Val d'isere)
Off piste conditions not great (visited mid-December)
Great lifts
Amazing transport off the slopes (free local bus)
The variety of runs to choose from was a great start for me as a beginner to learn on and grow as a skier.
I need to get back there at some point in the near future but next time will be with a toddler so will definitely be an exciting experience !
Highly recommended
Excellent varied terrain, something for everyone in a group.
Great apres and pubs/bars to dance the night away.
Firstly, you can ski for days. Literally. I think I’ve been there 4/5 times and I’m not confident that I’ve done every run. The place is immense. And also high, which means quality of snow is relatively consistent.
Secondly, Coco’s is a place like no other (apart from the second Coco’s around the corner in Val d’Isere). It’s the best après bar in the alps and boasts live music, dancing on tables and flame throwers! Being down at resort level, you can turn up in ski gear, or nip back and get changed into something more comfy. It also allows the party to go on much later than après bars located on the mountain.
In conclusion, if you’re going for the skiing or the après skiing, Tignes has it all! And I can’t wait to go back :)
