What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Had the best experience in Tignes. We went with a group of 6, a mix of ski and snowboarders.
Would definitely visit again!

Tignes-Val d'isère might be my favourite resort (been 4 times). It is probably the most complete ski resort that exists. It has excellent pistes for all levels (though intermediates/experts get the most out of it). It has amazing off-piste possibilities from the lift and also some great backcountry access. It has 2 glaciers, and is easily one of the most snow sure resorts of them all.
I like Tignes le Lac the most for hotels, Val Claret is best for good location /value/nightlife. Les boisses and les brevieres offer some great options for good quality lodging for families but offer a less central location in the resort.
The après ski is really nice and the quality of the restaurants is pretty good, but you just pay a pretty penny for everything here.. It is expensive, but offers great quality. Nightlife in Val Claret can be pretty good for French standards.

This resort is a must visit for every skier imo!

Booking outside the main holiday dates meant that the slopes were a lot quieter.

Easy access to both Tignes, the glacier and Val D'isere

Good resort with an extensive ski area. Town is ok, hotel was good, apres is better in other places in France or you can head over to Val d'isere to the folie if you're desperate.

Great ski resort for all ages. We usually ski at Easter so off-piste is variable - great some years and limited in others - but the pistes are very well maintained so on-piste skiing is great even at the end of the season. Excellent choice of accommodation and facilities.

Just spent a week in Tignes, Val Claret as a family of 4 with two young children, although the slopes where short of snow compared with previous years, we still had a great time with only a few runs closed. Lot's of non skiing/boarding activities to do, including tubing, dog sleigh rides, snowmobiles and shopping to name a few,.this was our 4th year visiting Tignes and we will be back again next year.

This area is great for groomed slopes as well as offering plenty of off piste opportunities. The fact that it is connected with Val d’Isere means the actual amount of slopes available is huge, with a great variety of difficulty levels. I think if you’re a beginner it’s better to stay at Tignes rather than Val d’Isere as there are more easier runs accessible without needing to take a few lifts at the start of the day. Also good if you’re needing a stretch as a more advanced skier for your first run with an easier start.

This is one of my favourite resorts, I have been going here for over 10 years now and this is pretty much annually. The slopes are amazing with a wide variety of options. You can travel all the way around Tignes and Val d’Isere and this will take the best part of a day (depending on how my you stop!).

There are so many slopes that you could go the whole day without doing the same slope twice!

As a beginner snowboarder, I loved Tignes, everything was so accessible, the staff are super friendly. Its family friendly as we were travelling with a 2 year old and it wasn't too busy. Good access for pedestrians too.

Tignes is a magnificent all-round resort, catering to all levels from beginner to heli-ski expert. We've been coming here as a family for 15 years now, as the quality of the snow and pistes are second to none. For non snow sport enthusiasts there is plenty to do, from the weekly market in Le Lac to snowmobile sessions, shopping, and a vast array of restaurants offering local delicacies. It would be amiss to ignore the other wonderful tradition for many families - pizza on the last night, of which many different takeaways offer a final slice of perfection. At the time of writing I am packing for our next trip up the mountain - Tignes, here I come!

Tignes is a great resort, it really big so I’d recommend researching where your accommodation is! We stayed in 1800 which was small quiet and beautiful but it was logistically challenging having to get the free shuttle up to Le Lac or Val Claret for better / more dinner options and to the child friendly areas like the igloos for my niece especially in -11.
The resort is full of blues which are quite tough as blues go but you are spoilt for choice and there are some really stunning runs! Not many greens at all so my sister struggled, If you are a complete beginner this is probably not the best place to start.
Overall we had a great time in Tignes!

Great for apres / skiing can be tough later in the day due to ice as the majority of the slopes are in the shade / very expensive but worth it

Myself and two friends stayed in Val Claret Tignes. It was a lovely resort, the piste was well groomed and there are facilities for both those that like to party at Apres or just enjoy the day skiing.

Vast range of options for every type of skier and high altitude so increased chance of good snow conditions. Not the most aesthetically pleasing town and definitely less of a traditional feel than some other alpine towns so if you're not interested in first lift/last lift skiing you may prefer something different but if you want to maximise your skiing it's perfect.
