What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Was a ton of fun. Unfortunately it got pretty snow the last few days and most lifts weren’t running but it was still a great week!

Very big with lots of slope options - we went for 4 days skiing and didn’t manage to cover it all. Some of the ski lifts weren’t on sometimes which was a bit annoying. Plenty of good speed options.

tignes is an amazing resort! has been slightly icy before the big dump but the runs are all groomed well. of course some of the runs lower down into the resort get a bit mogully by the end of the day as people come back down but overall the runs are great. tignes le lac is a lovely town with lots of restaurants and great bars. overall i love tignes, i come back every year!

Beautiful open pistes that mean more sunlight and less cooler, shadey slopes, particularly later in the season when there's still snow and longer ski days. Lots to do and very accessible.

Stayed in a self catering Charleston Tignes les Brevieres. Ultra fast lift all the way to the top , allowing a single run into Tignes le Lac.

Massive snow storms when we were there which allowed for phenomenal skiing for 3 days. Been here multiple times.....just cannot beat it!

We had a wonderful time in Tignes, the main benefits was the link up with Val-d'Isère and over 400km of pistes. The snow was incredible and we were spoiled with the range and shops, bars and restaurants on offer. Highly recommend.

As an expert level skier looking for good offsite and technical runs I have not been to a better resort than Tignes, including the 3 valleys where I completed a season. The resort is not pretty or particularly French, with ugly tower blocks dominating it, but the lifts are fast, the resort is very high and the runs are amazing.

I went to Tignes on a uni ski trip and absolutely loved it! The range of pistes was amazing and you could ski to Val D’Isere from where we stayed in Tignes. The accommodation wasn’t the most special but for what we paid for it was good location and amenity wise. Only issue was the space and the bedding being very thin. We went in April at the end of the season and the slopes were still in good condition. Apres in Tignes was amazing with Folie and Cocoricos! Would definitely recommend!

Just an amazing place. We stayed at Tignes Val Claret as it is higher than other Tignes resorts. Great skiing all around with great access over to Val D’Isere. Great selection of eateries in the upper part of town with some great bars (Ragna and Caulois were good choices). Would highly recommend Tignes for all round skiing!

Tignes early season was a complete joy. Minimal if any queues for lifts and very quiet slopes meant ‘millionaire skiing’

With the early quietness comes a more quiet evening / apres feel however cocorico in Val claret was still very popular.

Overall early skiing in tignes for the ‘ski purest’ caring more about cramming as much skiing as they can I can’t recommend enough.

Another thing good to know is it’s not overly important what village you stay in if you aren’t out late at night as the inter town free bus service is very regular up to about 11pm
