What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Loves the resort. The ski area is amazing and absolutely huge! Après ski is top tier and there’s lots of restaurant options. It’s quite pricey but no more than the majority of similar resorts, there’s also quite a lot of bars that do happy hours. Highly recommend visiting.

I went with family and friends of all skiing abilities. It was a great experience with lots to explore and open to all abilities. It was nice that après was at the bottom of the mountain in town so that non-skier friends could join in the après fun. I would recommend the snowboarding lessons with great instructors who push you to be the best rider you can be. They are also very knowledgeable of the mountain and can take you places you never would have thought to have gone. Great atmosphere and a great holiday.

Tignes just works. The snow is consistently great, the runs go on forever, and everything feels easy once you’re there. You can ski straight from your accommodation, lap solid pistes all day, then roll into après without overthinking it. It’s not trying to be overly pretty or traditional it’s all about good skiing, good energy, and having a laugh in the mountains. One of those places you leave already planning to go back.

Val Claret at Tignes in January 2026 was fabulous, even with little snow (it fell at the end of the week) the resort was fully functioning with fab runs, plenty of options and great apres ski vibes, we travelled with teenage family and had a fab week

I went to tignes on a uni ski trip and found the skiing to be highly enjoyable and varied with slopes for all abilities. The lift queues were quite efficient (maybe also because we went at the end of the season) and the apres ans food options were all great. The town areas is also well equipped with any shop etc you may need, accessible and very pretty.

Great snow. Long runs and short queues. Dependable weather and enough runs to keep it varied for a whole week or a few.

I have been three times to Tignes in recent years - and Val d’Isere before that . Now prefer Tignes for its higher location and wonderful lift connections. Le Lac my preferred are to stay .

Tignes Le Lac is a great resort for mixed ability groups, and there are several lifts suitable for those learning which can save money for those doing lessons without needing to do lift passes. Amenities are central, and ski area is varied and vast. Even when no snow for a month, pistes were well kept and suitable for skiers of all levels. When there is fresh snow, it is a great resort for boarders too

Routes to apres at the top of the mountain were shut and there was an electrical fault to half the lifts, making it difficult to fet around. Loads of great pastes when you could eventually use them!

We have been to Tignes skiing as a family for 25 years, as you note probably our favourite resort. It's got everything we want & need to satisfy all our families needs & requirements from the varied runs to the cuisine & finally the apres. We first came with Crystal when the children were young 4 & 6 then we added our 3rd child. We eventually moved to driving & self catering accommodation. All in all an awesome resort.

Had a really good skiing experience. Start of the week not so much snow but the piste was well groomed and could get some serious skiing distance done. Thursday and Friday they had a big amount of snow come down and it was brilliant for powder skiing! Only issue was it did mean most of the lifts was closed on Thursday and Friday due to the snowy, windy conditions. Après was great fun too, especially in coco-ricos and folie dolce!
