What Skiers Say About Morzine
Morzine attracts a broad mix of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with families and groups of friends commonly mentioned. Reviewers consistently highlight the resort's location within the Portes du Soleil area, offering easy access to Avoriaz, Les Gets, and a large variety of terrain. The town itself is praised for being a real Alpine town with numerous bars, restaurants, and shops, and the free shuttle bus service is frequently noted as efficient. Snow conditions receive mixed feedback, with lower altitude slopes sometimes suffering from lack of snow or becoming slushy, though higher areas like Avoriaz are noted as more snow-sure. Off the piste are some well seasoned routes and I never felt unsafe.
The stash is SO MUCH FUN to play around in with friends!
Also being vegan, morzine has so many options, and were not talking just bean burgers, but full on vegan menus items! Above and beyond compared to many other French resorts Ive been to!
Great for friends, great for family, Ill be coming back
The Portes Du Soleil resort was good, plenty of runs, plenty of bars/restaurants to stop off at.
As an intermediate skier I had trouble the first few days with some of the blue and green slopes, as they were being used so much and not being groomed enough, moguls were forming even on some greens. I saw some beginner groups really struggling with this too.
The resort was overcrowded, the slopes near Avoriaz were ripped up before lunch time. However if you took the lifts to the top and went down the Swiss side of the resort, it was much quieter, seemed better groomed, and was a much more enjoyable time.
One of the days there was a big dropping of powder the night before, and this made for fantastic skiing, once you could get up the slopes that is. There were far too many people on the mountain, and half the lifts were closed until well past lunchtime, meaning a 45 min wait in a line (people just shoving around to try get to the front) to get up the mountain. This day alone meant we are very unlikely to return, just down to the poor management of the lifts, and no information being given as to how long until lifts would be opened, could be 10 minutes, could be 2 hours.
Morzine as a town was great though, lots of places to eat, drink, shop. Easy gotten around, the town was fantastic!
Morzine is a part of the Portes du Soleil region, extending across to Les Gets, Avoriaz, and over into Switzerland. Weve skied here six-years running, and STILL discover runs wed missed before!
Lifts are good - there have been a few new six-person lifts built for this season. One bottle-neck is Super Morzine to Avoriaz chair, the Proclou Lift, which often has a larger queue. They do need to address that!
Morzine itself, is vibrant, with fabulous accommodation, a huge range of retail and ski-hire shops, and a huge choice of bars and restaurants, some with live music!
Fingers crossed, next years snow is abundantbecause were already booked!
There are a number of good restaurants in the resort center, with great bars for a younger crowd.
The chalet options are really good, we stayed in Croc Blanc 4 Saisons and the hosts were fantastic.
Quite low so snow can be unreliable late season. Off piste suffers because of it. Better in avoriaz where the altitude is higher.
As a ski instructor who has been to the U.S. (Tahoe), Canada (whistler) and Japan (Niseko), Morzine (+ portes du soleil) trumps them in terms of variety.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great holiday.
Short transfer from Geneva too, which you cant forget about, an hour and a half tops. Travel time is a minimum, which means more skiing!
Morzine itself is very low so not a good one if its going to be above freezing temperatures. Also the town is big but quite spread out.
Morzine itself is a decent base but I probably wont stay this low again. If I come back to this ski area I will stay in avoriaz.
The skiing in morzine was great, had brilliant snow and was nice and quiet!
Would fully recommend and we are looking at coming back next winter!
