What Skiers Say About Morzine
Morzine attracts a broad mix of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with families and groups of friends commonly mentioned. Reviewers consistently highlight the resort's location within the Portes du Soleil area, offering easy access to Avoriaz, Les Gets, and a large variety of terrain. The town itself is praised for being a real Alpine town with numerous bars, restaurants, and shops, and the free shuttle bus service is frequently noted as efficient. Snow conditions receive mixed feedback, with lower altitude slopes sometimes suffering from lack of snow or becoming slushy, though higher areas like Avoriaz are noted as more snow-sure. I went a few weeks ago, and we skied over to Switzerland and did the Swiss wall as well which was an unbelievable experience.
The pistes were quiet in some areas and bashed well given the lack of snow.
The apres scene is great with bars which are scattered over the mountain.
Our favourite places to ski:
- Lindarets - which led onto Switzerland region after a long lift - after we found the Lindarets area it opened up so many runs, we skied 46km that day!!
Our favourite place for lunch:
- Yéti (next to Folie so you can listen to the music whilst youre eating)
Our favourite apres spot:
- LAdresse (end of day run down before the bus!)
If you are visiting Portes Du Soleil, I would advise staying in Avoriaz as it is not a quick transfer between the 2. Avoriaz is a higher resort and has the better skiing.
Ski school staff were extremely friendly and helpful and overall amazing teachers.
Aprés is where morzine wins it for me or France in general! They have in my opinion the best apres scene in Europe!
100% recommend to anyone thinking of booking the trip
The last three years have seen mostly green fields with ribbons of manmade snow down at resort level. Sure, there is good skiing up in Avoriaz.... so go to Avoriaz.
The trip up to Avoriaz from Morzine takes a good hour by lift or bus and once you are up there you cant just pop back to your accommodation.
There is some great skiing to be had in the Portes du Soleil, but my advice would be to access it from Avoriaz.
Food and drink is really good but is on the expensive side.
But all in all is a really good resort.
Once you get out past Avoriaz towards the Swiss border it often feels like you have entire runs to yourself, with ample opportunity to go off piste. And of course you can try the infamous Swiss wall when out this way!
The scale, range and quality of the region really makes for a great day of skiing.
You have the access to Morzine and Let's Gets which is excellent value for money.
Only 1hr transfer from Geneva Airport which is a big plus for anyone who doesn't like that long transfer.
A beautiful original village offer wholesome meals.
Should there be issues with snowfall you can access avoriaz which is 1800m above sea level and has always got great snowfall.
A must for any skier or snowboarder that want something different.
Off the piste, the choice of bars for aprés is great and in the evening, restaurants are my friends and I are vegan and this is by far the best place we have been to in Europe for skiing for choices! 10/10 recommend! Ill be back soon!
Morzine itself is easy to navigate and the option to enjoy an ice hockey game is always fun. We will return next year!
The stars have to align and the weather needs to be perfect to enjoy some off piste or powder days.
High traffic means the groomed pistes will rather be mogul central or muddy by mid afternoon.
Great resort for groups!
