What Skiers Say About Megève
Megève attracts a mix of intermediate and advanced skiers, with many families and repeat visitors noting its wide, well-groomed runs and tree-lined slopes. The resort is consistently described as beautiful and expensive, with high-quality but pricey restaurants both on and off the mountain. Snow coverage is a recurring concern due to the lower altitude, particularly later in the season and on lower slopes, though grooming and snowmaking are praised. Lift infrastructure is mixed, with some older, slower lifts and minimal queuing outside French holidays. Après-ski is limited compared to larger French resorts, though La Folie Douce is frequently mentioned. The village is charming but caters to a luxury clientele, affecting overall costs.

We were told it was unusually busy, so some waiting periods at the lift, but we’ve had worse. Worth planning lunch as it gets busy, a crepe station is always n nearby but waiting times can be long.
Definitely worth checking out the other areas, Rochebrune because it’s easy to stick to one area if you don’t make the effort. Alternatively, go up the Princesse gondola, and once at the top, do the runs in clockwise order following the sun, a good day out and some truly lovely runs and good distance/time coverage. We stayed in Demi Quarter, lovely chalet, but challenging to get to and from by car - so we walked a lot. It’s not walkable to Megève central village, Uber works but ensure you’ve paid (and captured the subsequent code) to provide to the driver. We lost reception and couldn’t translate or provide the passcode (first time I’ve seen that with uber) - parking at the bottom of Princesse lift is good/free and the lift is reasonably quiet and gets you to a central spot to start your day from. We had some challenges with conditions and the lift didn’t run, which if you’re based in the Demi quarter, makes it difficult to get to the slopes unless you drive to Megève and park. Parking was a bit nuts, due to unseasonably large number of people - but there is a bus running from the casino car park, up to mont d’Arbois lift.
Overall good, had good and bad luck with the snow. Recommend staying in Megève village it you want more access and variety, but Demi quarter is very picturesque albeit more quiet.
In my opinion a minor amount of the pistes labelled blues and greens were very steep for their colour code.
The views on the mountain were gorgeous!
There are lots of areas for beginner/ intermediate skiers/snowboarders. And then a whole area made up mostly of reds and blacks for the more experienced thrill seekers.
Me and my family of all ages abilities and rider types all had an amazing time!
great variety of runs
went outside of school holidays and the slopes were quieter than any other resort i have been to.
lift system efficient and easy to navigate
If you’re used to Val D’Isere or Meribel apres then you may be a little disappointed here. There is a Folie but only really had a vibe 15:00-16:00 and in town we didn’t find any late afternoon apres, more wine bars than full party afternoon pubs - but a few good options for later in the evening.
being goin for 3 consecutive years and it’s just perfect
february u.s. the best to go, you get the best snow
