What Skiers Say About Megève
Megève attracts a mix of intermediate and advanced skiers, with many families and repeat visitors noting its wide, well-groomed runs and tree-lined slopes. The resort is consistently described as beautiful and expensive, with high-quality but pricey restaurants both on and off the mountain. Snow coverage is a recurring concern due to the lower altitude, particularly later in the season and on lower slopes, though grooming and snowmaking are praised. Lift infrastructure is mixed, with some older, slower lifts and minimal queuing outside French holidays. Après-ski is limited compared to larger French resorts, though La Folie Douce is frequently mentioned. The village is charming but caters to a luxury clientele, affecting overall costs.

Snow can be a little hit and miss but been twice in January and there was enough to entertain us on a long weekend.
Megeve centre is very nice but expensive. St Gervais is as nice but much cheaper to stay and has great restaurants and night life.
Would return in a a heartbeat.
Eating out can be expensive, both in town and up the mountain - but it's a fashionable resort - you go there knowing that.
The place to be seen in France with great restaurants and bars and decent apres ski.
La Folie Douce at 2000m+ is an experience!
Favour peak times to ensure snow coverage.
Away from the bling areas are good reasonably priced bars and restaurants.
Skiing is cruising focused, and well linked to neighbouring resorts.
Plenty of tree skiing and a few steeps and off piste to be found.
With travel from Geneva about 1 hour 30 mins an early flight will get you on the slopes by lunch time.
A weeks skiing this area wont be boring.
Restaurants mainly pricey but excellent quality food even the non-Michelin star ones! There are cheaper options if you look for it. Advisable to book restaurants in peak periods. Ask for price of wine before drinking as can be expensive even by the glass.
Very easy (60 - 80 minute transfer from Geneva) makes it a good choice for a short break, especially as not an extensive ski area compared with most French resorts. We have been here 10 years running (except 1st post-Covid year) and have never been disappointed.
Plenty of mountain restaurants and bars. Some are typically French cuisine and some more modern with live music or DJs entertaining the younger demographic.
Well pisted groomed slopes for all abilities. Off piste available if the conditions are right. Jump parks and ski cross track.
A relatively quiet resort with little queuing for lifts apart from the usual half term madness in February but even then smaller queues than most and quick to flow.
The resort town/village is growing over most recent years. Lots of investment with plenty of places to eat and drink. Great apres ski bars all over.
If you pick the right places to stay, ski in and out is possible. But if not, the resort is well linked by a free bus service that operates well.
Megeve is an absolutely beautiful town, probably one of the most authentic alpine towns around, with beautiful lights and flowing rivers, and a huge horse & cart in the centre.
As for the skiing, theres plenty on and off piste to be enjoyed, and great tree runs, with tree coverage across most of the mountain.
A trip up to Cote 2000 will give you the most incredible views, and a great selection of runs for both intermediate and advanced skiers alike.
Theres lots of steep mogul runs too.
Racetracks and parks.
The only problem which seems to be getting worse due to climate change is that megeve is fairly low down and has not received much snow in recent years. Infact the mountain has melted already at the time of posting this (18/03/2024).
