What Skiers Say About Flaine
Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

Highly recommendalthough dont go as it means the slopes will get busier for me.
Food options on the mountain are good and the restaurants and bars in the town are great - go down to the bottom level and the brasserie and bar/restaurant next door are lovely. My brother is going again this year with his family after going to Val Thorens for years. He loved it last year and had great snow. We usually go in March when its quieter with longer warmer days.
Huge and varied terrain to challenge all levels. Great selection of accommodation and plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.
Has lots of snow throughout the season, thus can be very good late in the season for a short or extra trip.
Lots of different types of slopes although a few of the reds into resort can get icy or slushy depending on on the time of year
Pros:
Plenty of different areas to ski
On and off piste skiing
Cons:
Small nightlife
There isnt much apres ski but that suits as with kids. We loved going to the Rocky Pop hotel for drinks.
Only an hour or so from Geneva makes it a very easy resort to get to. We will return next year.
Wide pistes and great off piste when it snows
Season often starts earlier than expected due to early snow and lasts longer than most
1h from gva, so very convenient and easy to get to!!
Flain itself provides some great hotels that are literally ski to door. Food and after ski entertainment is aplenty.
Ski pass and ski hire is very reasonable for the European ski.
And the bonus is the views from the top highest peak not only provides some fabulous views and ski runs down but the restaurant at the top is fab rest stop for some amazing hot chocolate and Rum lol
Not a lot of apres-ski but we liked that
Aprês is extremely limited in Flaine, however, I would highly recommend taking a visit to LEoge on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4pm-10pm where there is a slight Aprês scene.
For nights out, definitely head to The White Pub and The Social. The Social also do a deal for beer and Pizza.
For food, I would highly recommend Le Michet. This place has an incredible stone grill experience. This restaurant is located on the nursery slope and next to LEoge. It was walkable. Chez Pierrot is my favourite restaurant in Flaine. Here they have incredible fondue and stone grill too, alongside other dishes. The service is incredible and its a lovely family run restaurant.
Sabaudia is a great Gluten Free option.
The resort itself is pretty ugly concrete buildings and only a few restaurants and shops with 1 main bar, and a couple of smaller ones. For the lads... or lasses no. For families yes! Plenty tree lined runs and a good selection of reds. Only a couple of blacks. Loads of off pieste.
Just over an hour from Geneva.
No cars in resort. Free carpark outside resort and a free shuttle bus to take you in and out.
Weekend break ideal.
Week ski.. ideal !
