What Skiers Say About Flaine

Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

This hidden gem that gets looked over for the better resorts has it all. Decent ski schools, great snow coverage and a great amount of slopes for ALL levelssome great technical sections and one of the longest runs in Europe down to the bottom of Le Grand Massif!!
Highly recommendalthough dont go as it means the slopes will get busier for me.

A resort with an excellent snow record, it provides access to other ski areas and it has a large number of long blue runs.

It won't be in anyone's top 10 après resorts unless they have been to fewer than 11 but lots to keep you busy enough to not care. Some good off-piste options although sinkholes abound to trap the unwary. Some of the lower runs in the wider area are only viable these days when conditions are good. An excellent family resort with a good range of terrain and difficulty.

We've been to Flaine (and nearby Les Carroz)a number of times now -a very easy to get to resort from Geneva on a private transfer. Lovely sunny bowl for skiing and good lift connections. I'd say its a intermediate resort. Stayed last time right next to the slopes and lifts - perfect. Good supermarket down on the bottom level or a smaller one up top.
Food options on the mountain are good and the restaurants and bars in the town are great - go down to the bottom level and the brasserie and bar/restaurant next door are lovely. My brother is going again this year with his family after going to Val Thorens for years. He loved it last year and had great snow. We usually go in March when its quieter with longer warmer days.

Close to the airport this good transfer times.

Has lots of snow throughout the season, thus can be very good late in the season for a short or extra trip.

Lots of different types of slopes although a few of the reds into resort can get icy or slushy depending on on the time of year

Amazing off piste, great snow record, lots of reasonably priced accommodation options. Convenient for access to the slopes. Love the layout of the pistes in Flaine, arranged in a north-facing bowl for ease of access and great snow. Good for families but not a huge selection of pubs or clubs (which also like). Two or three good pubs so enough to do!

Really great value for money resort. I am a budget skier who wants to get maximum thrill with minimal cost. I have found Flaine is the best balance between the two. Amazing scenery and great runs. Also some very good off-piste!! Great mix for all ski levels.

We really love Flaine as a family resort. We ski the whole area of the Grand Massif which is huge! Loads of green, blue and red runs for us as a family of intermediate skiers.
There isnt much apres ski but that suits as with kids. We loved going to the Rocky Pop hotel for drinks.
Only an hour or so from Geneva makes it a very easy resort to get to. We will return next year.

Flaine is a absolute gem of a resort, to be honest I don't wish it to gain in popularity any more because its almost the secret you wish to keep. Built almost in a Bowl like area were all lifts take you up and out from the resort and you then link to many fabulous runs back into the village. The addition bonus is that it also links to Lez carroz via giving you even more freedom to experience some different terrain.

Flain itself provides some great hotels that are literally ski to door. Food and after ski entertainment is aplenty.
Ski pass and ski hire is very reasonable for the European ski.

And the bonus is the views from the top highest peak not only provides some fabulous views and ski runs down but the restaurant at the top is fab rest stop for some amazing hot chocolate and Rum lol

I worked in Flaine during the 22/23 winter season. The ski area in Flaine is great which countless ranging level runs. Its great for beginners. A big money saving tip for complete beginners would be to hold out getting a lift pass whilst youre only doing the nursery slopes. You can take the magic carpet in Foret level and also take a green down to Forum level, take magic carpets down and also take the yogurt pot lift back up to Foret all without a lift pass. Every other lift requires a lift pass.
Aprês is extremely limited in Flaine, however, I would highly recommend taking a visit to LEoge on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4pm-10pm where there is a slight Aprês scene.
For nights out, definitely head to The White Pub and The Social. The Social also do a deal for beer and Pizza.
For food, I would highly recommend Le Michet. This place has an incredible stone grill experience. This restaurant is located on the nursery slope and next to LEoge. It was walkable. Chez Pierrot is my favourite restaurant in Flaine. Here they have incredible fondue and stone grill too, alongside other dishes. The service is incredible and its a lovely family run restaurant.
Sabaudia is a great Gluten Free option.

We have been to Flaine twice and booked again for next year already. The value of for money for this resort is outstanding. Great range of accommodation options to suit all budgets. Some excellent restaurant options too, and we found several that catered excellently for food allergies. On top of this, you have access to some amazing skiing, and a large ski area if you get the Grand Masif pass.

I've just been at the end of season 11th to 14th April. Flaine was still all open, only not able to ski to connecting resorts on The Grand Massive as they were closed and lacked snow. Skiing in 19° heat with snow all the way to the centre of Flaine... nuts!
The resort itself is pretty ugly concrete buildings and only a few restaurants and shops with 1 main bar, and a couple of smaller ones. For the lads... or lasses no. For families yes! Plenty tree lined runs and a good selection of reds. Only a couple of blacks. Loads of off pieste.
Just over an hour from Geneva.
No cars in resort. Free carpark outside resort and a free shuttle bus to take you in and out.
Weekend break ideal.
Week ski.. ideal !
