What Skiers Say About Flaine

Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

Snow no longer reaches all the way down to the lower resorts, so not all Grand Massif runs are available, eg. cant always ski back to Les Carroz, Cascades run closed.
Good wide pistes for cruising fast. Most dont become mogul fields in the afternoons.
Easy to navigate lifts.
Not best resort for complete beginners as some connecting Blues can be a challenge.
On-mountain lunch stops less varied and less high quality than Italy & Austria, but still expensive.

FLAINE IS SUCH A GREAT FAMILY RESORT AND EVERYTHING IS SO ACCESIBLE.
THERE IS ENOUGH SKIING FOR A WEEK AND WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPE OF RUNS TO KEEP THE WHOLE FAMILY HAPPY .. FROM LITTLE ONES TO THE MORE ADVANCED. THERE ARE LOTS OF LOVELY OFF PISTE RUNS AS WELL. HOWEVER MAKE SURE YOU GO WITH A GUIDE AS THERE ARE ROCKS AND BIG HOLES DOTTED AROUND THE PLACE. MY WILD SKIING DAYS ARE OVER, SO PLENTY OF GOOD SKING FOR ME.

I was there in January 2025, its as good as I remember it, this is my second time. There is plenty of scope especially if you get the Grand Masif ski pass and not just Flaine. Brilliant for all levels of skiier. Its a more family based resort however still a few good spots for a few drinks. Overall I highly recommend to anyone.

Great short break, 3 really good days of riding with a good area to dodge the busy slopes near town and nice tree runs. Apres not really happening but good selection of restaurants and friendly staff. Great place for families or a short break focused on riding.

Great trip - cheap with Sunweb. Apres is quiet but plenty of great blues and reds for an overall great experience. Good beginner slopes but not many beginner friendly greens to progress up with

Incredibly well maintained throughout the entire season to maximise the use of the resort. So many great restaurant options both in the main town and dotted around the slopes. The local pool is a blessing after a long day on the board and the bars are welcoming and cosy. I've been lucky to visit alot in my youth and have recently been back the last couple of years and it still holds up great. Highly recommend.

Great family resort but difficult jump from beginners to intermediate slopes as steep bowl. Small resort- perfect for a weekend- you might want to explore grand massif

A full weekly programme of activities for kids, both ski and non-ski related, especially during school holidays. Swimming pool is useful on bad weather days. Queues for the two funiculars (which are free) between the two main levels of resort centre can get long at peak times at the end of the day. Varied restaurant options, a couple of lively venues for apres and two mini supermarkets.

Really great for family and beginners. Worth a visit with little ones. Enough to keep experienced skiers/snowboarders happy if you get the valley ski pass.

Overall Flaine is a great resort, with everything you could want, with the exception of apres ski. Theres a good number of ski-in ski-out hotels and a decent number of restaurants in Flaine forum. From the forum itself there are 2 gondolas, a chair lift and a stand up lift all very close - allowing you a lot of choice as to routes to take in the morning. The first few runs of the day were very quiet and the afternoons got busier. There are a good number of blue and red runs and some of those are lovely and wide. There are also a handful of blacks which I didnt try personally. And again a few greens. Whilst we were here it didnt snow and hadnt done for the few days prior but the slopes were still in good condition and groomed well - with not too much ice. Overall Id recommend this resort for intermediate skiers who arent too fussed about apres ski

A wonderful friendly resort that is family friendly, clean and welcoming. Plenty to do outside of skiing, a local 25m pool, ice skating, sledging, dog sledding to name some of the activities on offer. Myself and daughter has ski lessons and the instructors were so patient and made it really enjoyable. I was on blue runs by the end of the day. Excellent and will definitely come back.
