What Skiers Say About Flaine

Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

Myself and friend went to Flaine last season and had a great time. You really have all you can want in one resort. The lift queues are quick, the runs are well groomed and the apres is decent as well. Then if you feel like you have exhausted the resort its well linked to others and you can spend a day there.

Flaine was fab for access to the Grand Massif ski area. The snow was great and the pistes are perfect for intermediate being blues and reds access across the whole area. In flaine the afternoon sun was a bit scarce so apres ski is shady but loved it overall

Loved it - definitely an intermediate resort, lots of long blues and reds (which are great). Chair lifts could do with updating though to have covers/heating and be a bit faster

Great time skiing, had a brilliant private instructor to improve my technique. Would love some more longer greens and easy blues but also meant its pushed me to challenge myself on the harder runs! Could do more interesting apres but what we got was good fun. Quite a lot of concrete in the town so not very picturesque but great value for money

Resort was okay. Not much après and a fairly small town in comparison to the ski runs. The pistes arent really groomed but still okay. LOTS of fresh snow - its officially the snowiest resort in Europe so the pow skiing is fantastic. Pistes often have a lot of natural bumps because of the amount of snow. Snow park is great and food is pretty good too without being mega expensive. Looks like a great resort for families. Not sure Id rush back but definitely enjoyed the resort.

Did a ski season here in 2017 and absolutely loved it. Plenty of slopes for beginners intermediate and expert. Lots of good treeline runs and off piste as Flaine sits in a bowl so it gets really good snow coverage!

Recently skied Grand Massif, which includes Flaine. I stayed in Samoens, so not sure about apres and accommodation in Flaine itself - but the terrain in Flaine was great! There's decent beginner terrain and lots of more challenging steep slopes. When I went, lift lines were short and the snow was mostly very good. Food options on the slopes are decent and it's relatively easy to access Samoens, Les Carroz and Morillon.

Excellent ski with a good variety of well maintained pistes. Lifts we're a little unpredictable and difficult getting out of the resort first thing in the morning. The resort itself is souless and very little by way of apres ski.

HAve been skiing here many times and it is amazing for the skiing and food, plus good value for money.
Lacks some apres ski but definitely for the people who want to make the most of the snow.
Could do with some more long runs but ability to cross into the next valley does give this.

Flaine is super convenient being only a short transfer from Geneva. There's some great runs here and it's part of a large ski area.
Downsides are that the whole area isn't that high so outside of Flaine can struggle for snow. The town is also small so there are limited apres options

Really enjoyed our family holiday. We hand them to this resort before, but found it a great resort. Our son loved his ski instructor who took the intermediate class and made it really fun by seeking out jumps (small!) and paths. We loved the wide choice of runs. It is snow-sure due to the weather system and where other resorts go perhaps two inches of snow we got over a foot. Wife choice of accommodation too. Would recommend the resort for families as well as adult only skiers. We are looking forward to going back.

I really enjoy Flaine, its especially good when there is a lot of snow and you can ski all the resorts around it as well in the Grand Massif. It can get very busy during school holidays and can be reasonably busy at other times but its still great fun to ski there. For skiers that like to carve and ski on lively pistes, getting the first DMC lift of the day and skiing down Faust is great fun! You just need to be very careful off piste as there are many large holes which you cant see and you could fall down if you dont know where you are going (you wont be getting out), however on piste is perfectly safe. Flaine had great snowfall compared to other resorts usually, often has snow when others dont. Has nice runs and if you get bored you can explore the rest of the Grand Massif, just dont miss the last lift back to Flaine. I would highly recommend this resort.

It is a great family resort and safe areas for beginners/ intermediates.
We have been going for years and choose it for its value for money as we tend to self cater. It is a short transfer and snow sure being lower than other snow sure resorts, its great for young children who feel the cold.
