Flaine Review Summary
Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

Brilliant ski in/out hotel with spa. Prices were reasonable
Perhaps given the time of year however at the end of a day the blues became reds and proved very difficult for some to negotiated. Having ski’ed snowboarded for over two decades I have never seen so many people being brought off the hill by ski patrol. That said from my observations of the work they were doing they were excellent and super efficient. We stopped to assist with one gentleman who had fallen and they arrived with ten minutes and had him off the hill safely within 30 minutes.
Some lifts were dated the chair lift up to lindars nord was only a two person and stopped at least 3 times every time we used it.
For boarders watch some of the blues esp serpentine there are extensive flat parts.
Some really beautiful runs over the 4 villages side. We had a lot of fun there.
Flaine is incredibly family friendly and compared to other locations in France, it’s very good value!
I really liked the result the fact it’s only an hour and a half from Geneva is a big plus for me plus I love brutalist architecture and I was particularly impressed by the Picasso stuck slap bang in the middle of the resort. The top of the mountains isn’t as high as other places in the Alps topping out about 2600 m but that’s still plenty high enough to guarantee decent snow and the conditions were excellent. Would definitely recommend!
I would definitely recommend this resort to friends and family.
It was our first visit to Flaine, which we picked mostly due to its proximity to Geneva airport. We were lucky enough to arrive during the massive dump of snow in Jan 26. This did make the drive up the mountain interesting but we got there safe and sound.
We stayed in a hotel up the mountain on the slopes past Flaine Foret. This was great but had some logistical issues - we could only get there (with luggage) via snowmobile. This could only be done before or after the slopes were open. That said, the hotel was great, with amazing views.
The resort is famous for being ugly but it wasn't as bad as described and some of the building are now architectural landmarks.
The skiing was great, especially given the snow that had fallen. Very few lift queues and I think the worse that saw was 2 minutes. Plenty of entire runs to ourselves.
Food on the mountain was to a high standard and while obviously expensive was cheaper than some of the more famous resorts.
Flaine was a great place for a weekend stay.
