What Skiers Say About Flaine
Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

Some nice restaurants on the slopes with great service but I advise to book, particularly if you're in a large(ish) group. Try the Pente a Joules, Le Chalet (top of Salon) and La Luge a Teran.
The period that I skied was quite busy, particulary on the 'access/homewards' slopes towards Flaine (Grand Vans was particularly crowded), Samoens, Morillon. If you want quieter slopes head off towards Samoens early and then then up the Flaine side for the afternoon.
We stayed at the RockyPop hotel, nice enough, friendly and helpful staff with decent spa area.
Ate at Le Michet, and Bauhaus, both of which I would recommend (althoug service at Bauhaus was very slow).
Overall I would go back, but will try to pick a quieter time if possible!
I liked the Bauhaus art and architecture around the village.
The skiing was fantastic. It's well worth exploring over the hill to Morillon, Les Samoens, Sixt and Carroz. Lots of great days out to be had.
Morilllon blues and greens are great for beginner/ intermediate skiing. We found a red called Fred in Flaine that we ski'd repeatedly.
Not a massive choice of bars and restaurants and is not the most lively. Hotels are concrete tower blocks so not pretty but runs return back to the bottom of town so great to meet up with the group.
Not many runs.
Mainly self catering apartments.
Excellent value and perfect if you are learning.
That being said, because it’s quiet, the off liste doesn’t get tracked out and loads to play around in.
As a family of four, it’s big enough area to keep everyone interested.
Pretty much zero apres.
Quiet and not a party town.
Apres ski options limited but lively.
Quite pistes before the Saturday pre Christmas. As snow was terrible off piste was not an option.
