What Skiers Say About Flaine

Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

Great place to ski. We didn't bother with black routes as it was quite icy, but they looked quite doable. Lovely bars, restaurants, and so on, but not over commercial. Good food, with some amazing places at reasonable prices. We've actually stopped in both Flaine and Carroz, both of which we really loved.

Lovely family resort. Quiet, no lift queues.
Lots of blue and green runs. Lots of choice of accommodation. Our apartment complex had a spa and pool which was great after a long day on the slopes

We wanted to ski for a weekend so looked for a resort with the closest transfer and found Flaine. We were delighted to discover it - lovely efficient lifts and a very friendly resort. It was possible to ski across a wide area in a day

Really great resort if you are looking to learn. Nice Green slopes with the option to progress to long flowing blues then reds. The town itself isn’t the prettiest but has all the essentials and several restaurants. Some nice cafe/bars on the slopes but not lively apres.

Ski resort is kind of one big bowl so not the biggest place to explore but still lots of fun. Good snow conditions and ski in ski out options, although not the prettiest ski resort, more concrete buildings that beautiful wooden chalets.

The mountains are great, and beautiful, but the resort itself is not attractive. It lacks charm. Not pretty. But lots of options for food and shops. Fairly family friendly. Very good ski school, and the slopes are really well set up for learning, school trips, or developing and coaching skills racers.

Really short transfer from Geneva which was great. The snow was pretty bad in 2024 so it was very slushy in the afternoons & one of the main advertised long ski runs was shut as no snow down low. It’s not a pretty alpine ski resort but has everything you need. It wouldn’t be my first choice but I would go back again.

Great resort for family offering a mixture of pistes and off piste terrain to keep everyone entertained.
Shops and Restaurants are very good and priced reasonably in comparison to th current UK prices.
Some flatter actions for snowboarders on some of the blue pistes require a little pre planning for the snowboarders to carry speed or skier to avoid poling too much.
Very scenic resort and ESF ski school were fantastic with my 9 year old.

Great central resort. We normally stay in morillon, but Flaine is better location, and had good snow. Had choice of hotel rather than apartment wich was better and bigger than any accommodation we've stayed in before. Good choice too of restaurants.

I went to Flaine in 2023 with my mum and sister, it was great! Our accommodation was right at the bottom where the lifts are. It was so quiet when we went which was amazing for the slopes - food and bar option were great

More suited to families with little apres but for us it was perfect. Access to the Grand Massif meant we had a variety of runs. It was very busy as we went over new years. But, one of the reasons we picked this resort was how close it was to the airport and lots of blue runs!

A week of off piste skiing with an amazing instructor!! The off piste is great but you MUST go with a guide or instructor who knows the terrain very well as Flaine sits on limestone and is full of holes and caves. Flaine Forêt has ski in ski out accommodation.
