Lovely resort with many different sections to ski, each section connects to other areas in the Porte du Solie.

I learnt to snowboard here and have been back several times now over the past ten years. My sister got into an accident a few years ago and the staff in restaurants, emergency response team and hospital were all amazing and supportive throughout. A large variety of slopes and difficulties, beautiful views and beautiful resort:) The bars are amazing with wonderful staff, and so many tasty options to eat out!! 10/10 would recommend and be returning again.

Fantastic traditional alpine village with skiing for all levels. Very family friendly and great ski schools. New lifts in the super chatel area means no need to travel to pre la joux any more to access the portes du solieux
Even in half term weeks the areas around chatel are less crowded than other resorts with minimal lift queues.

Great place for first time skiers
Good places to stay and eat plenty of places to go for drinks after a long day

Spent 3-4 weeks here over several years from early to late season. Loads to do with a full Porte de Solei ski pass including lots of chutes through the woods and the infamous happy valley for lots of off piste (but still in resort bounds) for jumps and fun. However slopes do become heavy with snow piles in the late afternoon no matter what time of year. In late season the lower runs arent worth doing but earlier in the season you have the full height to go at. You do need to watch the map if you want to do a resort tour to work out the connecting lifts. But overall awesome and well worth coming back to.

Châtel is a unique skiiers paradise being at the opening of the Portes du Soleil, an extensive ski region in the Alpes. It provides easy links to The Portes du Soleil is Europes largest cross-border ski area. With more than 650 km of slopes and 12 French-Swiss resorts. Châtel is nestled between mountains and has great transportation links to the ski pistes and opportunity for door to door skiing. There are buses throughout the village to access all ski points of entry. We found a variety of charming bars and restaurants as well as an extensive variety of accommodation to suit all budgets. A cable car runs from the center to the Super-Châtel piste, which has panoramic mountain views. Châtel is great for beginner skiers and snowboarders but there is some superb terrain for both expert and intermediates. We found powder, carefully prepared runs, mogual fields and gentle beginners slopes. For boarders and skiiers of all abilities including groups, families, solo skiiers and aprés ski lovers alike you will love this piece of ski heaven!

A really lovely resort with plenty of amenities. Great ski runs and access to the Portes Du Soleil region. Buses run through the town and to the slopes. Well connected between the different towns. Lovely friendly atmosphere

We love Chatel and have skied there three times in the last 10yrs. It has nice cruisy blues and fun reds. It can be a bit busy first and last thing but there's lots of space to spread out. Id like less button lifts along the top but thats my only criticism

Gorgeous area and connected to the port-de soel ski region with access to a avoriaz and skiing between both france and switzland loads of fun and challenging runs with plenty of off piste sections to ski and plenty of lifts going over both challenging runs and easier runs that sort ski groups of various abilities, being quiet low in recent years the end and start of the season can be quite challenging ranging from really icy runs in the morning higher up and then really slushy runs closer to the bottom towards the end of the day, plus a free parking spot in the ardent bowl if you buy the full region ski pass, with a vast amount of runs you could spend a couple weeks there and not get bored (trust me Ive done it) and with both family friendly bars and lively ones theres something there for everyone and cant not mention the igloo bar on avoriaz where you can get a pint of peroni for 4 during there happy hour (mid afternoon).

Nicest Village in Porte Du Soleil, has advantage of improved connectivity to Linderettes ( reopening of Gabelou lift) area and onwards to Avoriaz via Linga for sweeping cruising pistes without having to traverse through Avoriaz.
Plus, links to Swiss side for near deserted pistes for lazy cruising. More of a village atmosphere and much better connected than Morzine and Les Gets which are out on a limb.
Plenty of tough routes including famous Swiss Wall for more adrenelin.
