What Skiers Say About Chamonix

Chamonix attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the resort is less suitable for complete beginners due to steep, challenging terrain. The resort comprises multiple separate ski areas accessed by free buses, which reviewers mention frequently as both convenient and occasionally frustrating. Off-piste skiing and steep groomers receive consistent praise from advanced riders, whilst the town itself is described as lively with good restaurants and bars, though dining and accommodation are repeatedly flagged as expensive. Several reviewers mention that runs can be narrow and that lift infrastructure feels dated in places. Weather-dependent snow cover at lower elevations and avalanche-related closures are noted across multiple visits.

Not one ski resort but many. These are accessed by ski bus. Good for experts. Lots of choices for eating out in the town.

I think the access to the ski areas is very easy to navigate and staff are helpful with any questions. We hired from Charmonix Ski and they are so friendly told you the best places to go for different ski levels.

We love Chamonix. I really like that the people who use this town as people serious about the mountains rather than the yobs that you get on mass in the bigger resorts. If you come to Chamonix, you are here to be fully submerged within the magic of this specular mountain range under the loom of mount blanc and her sisters. Its for serious mountain lovers, who enjoy eating wonderful food, accessing some of the best runs and want to get a good nights rest before heading out early. If you want lively après, do not come here!

I had mixed experiences skiing in Chamonix. Snow conditions were unfortunately below season averages and it was pretty crowded - but see how on a good year the resort would be great!

I first visited Chamonix in the mid aughts, back when it was still a lively resort with bustling apres and plenty of cheap options if you knew where to look.Today, Chamonix has grown up to become a much more upmarket ski resort. Thats no bad thing for the town, but having spent a season there recently I felt a tinge of sadness for the wilder days. The surrounding slopes need no introduction, and remain a highly recommended destination, although with the climate warming the opportunity to ski at lower altitudes is vastly reduced.

Great ski town that ticks all the boxes. Family fun or great apres ski with pals. Lifts can be pretty busy but not much worse than other resorts

Definitely not the resort for beginners or those who are more nervous. Lifts passes were extortionate and the resort in general, whilst lovely, is catering for those with money.

Stayed at the heart of Chamonix! ️ Lovely little village with ski hire, restaurants, bars, supermarkets & shops all close by. Needed to catch a bus to the slopes, but great variety for all levels! ️ Not much après-ski on the slopes themselves, but we took a day trip to Italy for a livelier scene! Overall, a great family-friendly location! #Chamonix #SkiTrip #FamilyVacation #France #Italy #Mountains #Snow #Skiing #Travel

Learnt to snowboard here with some really great blue runs and easy navigation around the mountain. Always enjoy going back. The town at the bottom of the mountain is lovely and has great food options. There are a few flat spots which as a boarder isn't the ideal but not enough to worry about!

Beautiful mount Blanc. Excellent gastronomic options but tricky to get around. The resort ski areas are not linked and the busses are poor. You may think of taking a car to get around and combat this but there is nowhere to park and if you can find a space its expensive.People flock to Cham for insta check ins or because the off piste is amazing and they can tell their friends but realistically these people dont have the skill to do the Propper off piste.Definitely worth a trip if your advanced and can go in low season but forget it if a family or beginners.Hidden gem restaurant is a Swedish restaurant near the casino called Bizzes. Fabulous service and food!

I went on a family ski trip here which was really lovely and perfect for the whole family but if I was going with a group of friends (Im 26) then I would want some more lively things to do in the evenings when the skiing is over but apart from that good skiing very family friendly great food available would deffo recommend and come back

Better for skiing than boarding. Bit of a pain having to get ski buses. La folie is a must for all visitors for apres. Such a huge resort and range of areas, its almost too much for a short break, better for a week.

The skiing in Chamonix is fantastic, the town is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. Only negative for myself was its not a ski-in ski-out resort but it has everything else.

A bigger town than alot of other resorts so not as pretty as some.
However I spent multiple winters throughout the alps and Chamonix I thought was by far the best for experienced riders. Excellent facilities to get up the mountain, challenging well kept slopes and a charm that cannot be matched. Can't wait to go back.

Great resort all year round. The town is full of life and is home to people through the year so theres always something to do. Prices can vary but bars and cafes are aimed at locals too so good prices can be found. Cant fault the slopes, with the Mont Blanc pass you expansive terrain with varied slopes for different abilities and can always find a spot with the best weather that day!

Have been to chamonix many times now, since 1999 and seen so much change. The runs are still awesome; particularly if you prefer more steep and deep stuff but the town seems to cater more for champagne and oyster eaters, rather than cheap and cheerful pubs that it once had. Granted, there are still a few little decent bars to hang out in (chambre neuf, the jekyll, bard up, monkey bar) but these are becoming a thing on the past unfortunately. If you can see past the gucci ski suit and mink head band brigade then it's still a jaw dropping setting that has so many challenging runs, as well as bid open plains (Le Tour).

Amazing ski resort links in to lots of other areas, something for everyone. Les houches is better for families. Whilst le tour and grand montet are good for experienced skiers.

Lots of skiing and quality apres ski. Enough slops and ski area for all levels, ski lifts are quick and little waiting time during the day. In the morning or late afternoon, there can be a long wait
